I am trying to work in healthier alternatives into my husband's diet as "soft" foods go through his GI tract well. Anybody have any recipes/ideas for smoothies that do not contain milk?  I have never even made smoothies for myself but we just bought the food Ninja (blender/food processor) and would like to try something if possible... Any recommendations?

Currently I am avoiding dairy and my favorite smoothie to make is, 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk, 2- 3 heaping spoons of peanut butter, banana, ice.

It is really yummy and gives me some good calories and fat.

Is it lactose you're avoiding or casein too? If just lactose, I like a smoothie made with Lactaid milk and Greek-style yogurt, plus a banana, some honey, and other fruit of your choice.

Can you use yogurt? I like to make smoothies with vanilla yogurt, mixed frozen berries, and coconut milk. Very tastey. I dont think coconut milk is like milk at all but not 100%

  I am allergic to dairy so I use a tiny bit of soy silk milk and frozen berries like strawberries and a little fresh bananna,  or the mixed of black berries with others but I add some sugar as they are not sweet enough for me.  So with the frozen berries I dont put any ice cubes in it as the berries make it just fine.  Its also really good...

Another of the same:

Whenever I see frozen fruit on sale at the grocery store I pick up a variety of bags (peaches, berries, mango, etc). The most basic is just almond milk and some of the frozen fruit. If I have some available, I'll also add yogurt, other fruit (e.g. banana), and/or protein powder. If it's not sweet enough, I'll add in some honey.

Coconut milk also makes a fantastic base for smoothies!

Not sure if you love mangos but I do.... I always made mine with fresh mango before and chilled it but the other day I found frozen mango cubes in Roche Brothers. Tasted the same but didn't have to cut a fresh one which was nice.

large mango diced and chilled or if you can find mango cubes in the frozen section
slices canned pineapples chilled or fresh if you feel like cutting it up
banana
Welch's Orange Pineapple juice
ice cubes
blend and enjoy

Hello,

Sorry to ressurect a dead thread, but I thought it better than simply starting a new one.

I put my recipes below, but I wanted to ask about green smoothies. Does anyone on here make them with kale, cucumbers, celery and that sort of thing. Or add suplements like Greens+? I know that when I eat raw foods like baby carrots, but intestines will flip on me! I will get a partial blockage and puke for the next 24 hours. But, maybe if it was blended I could enjoy, and still get my greens!

My favs.

Avacodo
Banana
raw eggs
kefir
honey
cocoa powder

or

Banana
kefir
raw eggs
honey
peanut butter
cocoa powder

I make a good amount of green smoothies, and I've NEVER used milk in any. This is what I usually do:

1-2 cups grapes for the base (or watermelon)
Strawberries/blueberries/blackberries/rasberries (to taste - usually 1 - 2 cups in any combination)
quarter or half lime (or lemon)
a bunch of greens (kale/spinach/celery/cucumbers)
1 - 2 bananas
1 tbs of flaxseeds

I usually don't add any sugars because the banana and fruits are sweet enough...but you can always use honey or something like that.

If you start doing a lot of green smoothies, you're going to want a good blender, eventually. :)

Is protein powder good to put in a smoothie if I have crohns? My boyfriend was just diagnosed and I'm searching all over for new recipes and learning what he can have and cant have. He needs to be on a liquid diet and I'm trying to figure out how to feed him through a straw.and still get the nutrients he needs.
