 I'm new here- I have had Crohn's for many years, also have many other problems.  I have been on Remicade and Imuran for about three years, and prednisone off and on- right now is on...

Just wondering if any of you have a lot of bloating and swelling in the abdomen during flares?  My clothes seem to actually be tight around my waist and tummy. smhair

Welcome to this forum- I am sure u will find as much benefit from it as I have. I can get bloating and swelling but it is not my main concern. Maybe others will come along who have more to share on that. Is this a new side effect for you just recently?

Hi and welcome. I have dif. size jeans depending on how bad I am . Also stretch in the waist band helps .

You might want to talk to your GI about the possibility of a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (sibo). I was feeling really gassy and bloated especially after meals. I called my gi and explained my symptoms and he said it was sibo. Treatment was 10 days of Cipro and a stronger probiotic and I haven't had those problems again. I still get some bloating, but its more from something I ate or drank. But I use gas-x and it helps. Hugs!

I think I will call my Gastro- its not new in that I feel bloated, that is bad enough LOL.
But this last few flares are actually feeling like I can feel intestine is actually really swollen? I definitely wonder now about the baterial overgrowth.

Hi Becktoria-

Yes it is a new symptom. Its similar to other flares, but so different to. I try to just catagorize my symptoms- "oh its the crohns, or oh its the AS, blah blah.." But even though I kept trying to do that, it just keeps getting worse. The bloating and pressure are really bad, and I take Dilaudid for pain, but even that doesn't stop it or I have to take more than I like to *6-8mg* :O

I habe that as well...I am usually a size 6 thanks to crohns but with the bloat I have right now I look like I am due to give birth soon...and yoga pants are my favorite pants atm. I dont have any ideas on how to make it better.

Glad to know I am not the only one. I'm only wearing yoga pants also, or my loose fleece loungers. The slightest pressure is awful. I am even getting to where I can't eat but a few bites at a time- last evening I had a small dinner- soup and a toasted cheeze sandwich- but I was so bloated and in pain that I couldn't sleep. So today its been hot tea and dry toast or crackers.
Can't wait for monday- I will be scheduling w/ my Gastro.
