So, I just read that UPMC will be letting the Highmark contract expire and I'm ticked off at both sides!  Since out of network fees will be cost prohibitive for me to continue to see my GI at UPMC I'll be looking for a new one. (Not happy at all).

If you are in the Pittsburgh, PA area and see a GI not affiliated with UPMC who do you see?  The local guy close to home is out of the question -- he gave up treating me several years ago.  I know there is a "good" GI at Allegheny General but my opinions of that facility aren't very high.  Basically I'll looking north and or northeast of the city. Thanks is advance.

You don’t perchance see Dr. Baidoo?  My suburban GI referred me to him after my problem-plagued   resection. 

When my mother was Dx with Crohn’s, she asked if there was someone closer that Baidoo could recommend.  He suggested Dr. Fusco who is part of the Center For Digestive Health in Moon  Twp. across from the old airport.  I would be tempted to go to him except that he [Fusco] said that Baidoo is a super specialist and I was lucky to get him—that he teaches them. 

I don’t know how much they charge but it would be less than the big city.   My insurance is basically hospitalization, so unless it’s related to a scope insurance pays nothing.  I went from paying about $70 for an OV to $215 plus the infamous $109 facility fee plus parking.

I see Dr. Lebovitz at Allegheny General. I'm not familiar with any other GI. I've been with Dr. Lebovitz since I left my pediatric GI. I trust Dr. Lebovitz and I am happy with my treatment, but he and his staff aren't always as accessible as I would like. Maybe I am expecting too much though.

Yes! I do see Dr. Baidoo and he was my life saver. When my former GI said I needed an IBD specialist he put in calls to Baidoo and Lebovitz -- Baidoo actually called back, Lebovitz never bothered. I'm either going to have to put a pile of $$ in my FSA to cover the out of network fees. I have such a good relationship with him and he actually LISTENS to what I am saying. So it's going to be a big decision on what to do. That is assuming I can get in with another IBD specialist that isn't with UPMC. This is soooo frustrating.

Oh yeah, the bills from there do sound ridiculous but I guess that is the down side to a teaching hospital.
