Upper Legs bruising terribly from scratching

Does anyone else experience this? I've scratched the outside of my right thigh and also the inside and now they are horribly bruised and sore to the touch. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm on Humira if that helps.

Hmmm... I have never experienced that. I think you might want to bring this up with your doc. Doesn't sound right! Hugs~

Hey aronk this is CROHNSPT I was wondering if you are still dealing with the EC fistula? I unfortunately am. I remember back last year sometime you mentioned you have more drainage and more pain during your periods. Well I am noticing that's when my symptoms tend to be the most aggravating and painful. I am currently looking for a surgeion that I feel comfortable with to approach this fistula. Have you had any luck?

Hey there--I had to have another resection to fix the fistula and leak about 9 months after my first resection. I went to Barnes in St. Louis (for the second surgery) and sought out a surgeon there. I'm good now -- no fistula. My Crohn's is active again (slightly) and I'm on Humira.

I'm not sure where you live, but I would definitely seek out a new surgeon.

Yes, my EC fistula always gave me more trouble during my period. Right before, the hole would seal over and form an abscess and then when I started it would start draining again. After my period it would sort of close up and then start the process all over again.

Good luck to you. My surgeon told me if you have crohn's and develop an ec fistula - you will need surgery to repair.

Yes I have scratched myself until I bruise. The past few months I had horrible all over body itching, which I told every doctor I had :) about. No one diagnosed it until I finally got into the dermatologist (waited 2 weeks!). Scabies. Horrible INTENSE itching. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Oh and the 2nd biopsy showed psoriasis - just to make it fun. I had 3 different kinds of rashes and woke up in the middle of the night scratching for 10 or 15 minutes. My husband mentioned it, so I was waking him up too!

Luckily the treatment is mild, and works, altho I am repeating it to be sure. It can take over a month for all the debris to leave your skin, since that's how long it takes to completely replace the depth needed to get rid of the skin cells.

And this was during my recent fistula repair, bowel resection surgery, so I was scratching and thrashing with my 8 inch vertical incision. Lots of fun!

Now I am having some sort of reaction to being out in the sun - red bumps. Don't know if this is psoriasis or something new LOL. Oh Well. Guess it's time to buy stock in the ointments/lotions I've been using - ha ha.

When I was on Humira, I would scratch a phantom rash. I would also bruise terribly, especially the thighs. I used a itch lotion from Whole Foods that worked well (it is the only one they sold but I dont remember the name) and I also had a prescription for visteril which helped but made me tired so I only took it at night. After Humira stopped working, I went on to Cimzia and never had that itching sensation again.

Aronk when did you have the surgery and do u feel like any fistulas are trying to return? I feel that if I have surgery I'm going to end up with ten more fistula holes. How was the recovery? Did u lose a lot of weight? I have had this fistula since Dec 2009 and I am getting to my wits end with the agony of the whole situation as I'm sure you can relate. Any and all info would be awesome.

I had the 2nd surgery with the take down of the fistula last April in 2010, so over a year ago. I have not had any more trouble with fistulas, thank goodness. The recovery was tougher than the first surgery, but my 2nd was an open surgery. I would say it took the entire 6 weeks to feel even somewhat decent, where as the first surgery (laproscopic) I had a lot more energy within a week or two. I lost maybe 10-15pounds at the time but have since gained at least 10 of it back. I'm 5"7 and 160 pounds now. I am glad I had the surgery. I had never experienced fistula's before I had my first resection, so I'm hoping I'm in the clear.

Hello Angela, thank you for responding so promptly to my post. I have been searching high and low for a surgeon that I feel comfortable with and one that I feel can do what needs to be done. I have been living with this fistula for too long. I am happy to hear that you haven't suffered anymore fistula issues since your last surgery. That's GREAT!! I can't believe it took so long for you to feel normal. That is scary, although I figured it would be a horrible recovery. Were you able to walk right away? How long did it take you to eat? Where did your fistula stem from?

Thank you for answering all my questions, I really appreciate it. I'm sure I will have more soon. Probably by tomorrow. :)
