In pain - need advice

Hi,
Right now I have extremely bad arthritis due to the Crohn's. I'm currently on Remicade (my next dose is in a month) and will be starting methorexate. The problem is until one of them starts working I'm in debilitating pain. My rhumetologist had given me Percocet last week which made it possible for me to live a relatively normal life, but now that I don't have anymore I can't even get out of bed because the pain is so bad.
I called to see if I could get more pain meds until some medicine worked but I am refused anything but steroids and Tramadol. I can't take steroids, last time I did it messed with my brain so much that I was having very vivid suicidal ideations, which is something I refuse to put myself through again. I've read that tramadol has side effects and withdrawal similar to Effexor which I have been on for depression and anxeity, and going off of it was the most hellish few months of my life.
I'm very frustrated that my options are taking a medication will make me feel horrendous but might help the pain instead of a medication that I know will help the pain and doesn't cause any negative side effects . I don't understand why my doctors are so against giving me narcotics when they work extremely well and I have a clear need.
Has anyone else had this problem and how have you dealt with it? I'm thinking of getting new doctors.

hi there. i am in the midst of a bad flare- doing much better but for the past 2+ years i have been in horrible pain- so bad it makes me puke. my GI would do nothing to address the pain. it was so frustrating. i sought out a pain mgmt doc and it turned my life around! he actually has family with crohn's so i didn't even have to explain. i've been on percocets for about a year now and as long as i take them i'm ok- can go to work, play with my daughter etc...definitely find a pain doc and see them- there's no need for anyone to live with pain. it's a touchy subject but only bc people who don't need the drugs abuse them...for those of us with real need its imperative that you get the meds you need! and if the 1st pain doc you see wont help see another. the percocets do lose effectiveness over time so they will probably need to increase dosage etc. so don't be afraid to let them know if you need more. good luck and try to find someone fast. the percs work great for me- i don't even really get any narcotic effect- just pain relief- they're not perfect...the pain is still there but its pain i can deal with not the dibilitating pain i was in before i found this doc.

age is big factor, with dr's and pain meds, allgi's are the worst for pain meds. me personally, opiate's are the only thing that i can count on to relieve pain, opiates work there best on our gut, like mtgman said go to pain clinic, they will piss test you, for various reasons, 1. they want to see how much is in your system. 2. after they give you script and piss test you again, they want to see the same amount in your system, if not, they will assume you are selling them, i get oxycodone 20mg. those are worth $20 a pill on the st. i get 60 a month, plus asacol, pred15mg immuran 150 mg. 5/15 i was in horrific car accident, just got into remission, that completly blew my remission apart, so i'm starting over, before accident, i was asacol and 5mg oxy.

You mentioned before you "are" on two antidepressants (?). Are you on them now? Because Tramadol is hugely dangerous with certain anti-depressants, and I would be very cautious about taking both at once until I had been told by an expert that it was safe.
