Imuran causing headaches?

I have been on Imuran for 2.5 weeks now. Started out on 50mg-- no side effects whatsoever on that. Been on 150mg for 3-4 days now. Had some nausea for the first 2 days but that has already improved. I have had headaches every day since upping the dose. Meds help but when they wear off, the headache is back. Is this to be expected? Anyone else experienced headaches in the beginning and have them get better?

I'm afraid that these drugs come with side effects. If you are having Flu-like symptoms (chills, aches, headache, and fatigue) or generally feeling "lousy" you should check in with your Dr.

I am sure other members will have advice for you that have personal experience in using this medication.

I'm on asacol,immuran, and weaning down on pred. so far all of those drugs have saved me, but in my case they all need to be mixed. asacol helped calm down sm. bowel. then I was in car accident, and flared in my esoph.throat and mouth with cankers on my tongue as well. pred. got mouth flared down, and now I think immuran is working, because when pred flared down my mouth and throat, it moved to migrating joints, and I believe immuran is helping that, ever so slowly, but it is working, I take 20mg oxy as well. I have short bowel syndrome from 9ft of sm. bowel removed, ti and secum valve, I use half of oxy to slow bm's down in the am. I was in remission before my accident, so proud how I accomplished it, took myself off rem. felt like it was causing more problems than helping, I went on to asacol, and within 2-3 days of starting I went into remission, I've had cd for 40 yr's. so I know my body. no side's at all, just typical thin skin problems on hands and head and face. I'm evan introducing leafy greens back into my diet, otherwise I can eat any food group. typically immuran takes 1-3 months to start working, I've discovered that it works faster if you are thin. I'm too thin, that is my next goal, gain some weight.

Thanks.... I'm not feeling anything other than headaches. No fever, aches, chills, general malaise. Nothing like that. Just had nausea when I first upped the dose but now that's much better. Only having stubborn headaches every day.

Your headaches should subside when your body gets used to the higher mg's. I still get headaches but not nearly as bad and truthfully, I don't even think they are from the 6mp to be honest - more like tension headaches. I find that Tylonel Arthritis helps since is has a higher mg then extra strength Tylonel.

Thank you! I was thinking (HOPING) it would get better after I adjust. I still have one more little step up in mg coming in 10 days. We'll see how it goes, I guess. So far so good.

I got headaches everyday for a week when I started back on Imuran at 100mg.

Ugh.  Another headache this morning.  Just took some meds.... hope they help.  The nausea is back off and on too.  Very little appetite.  Overall, other than the headaches, the side effects have been mild.  I just hope they ease up as my body adjusts.  Feeling pretty miserable this morning.  Very tired too..... like no amount of sleep is enough.  cry

I was wondering the exact same thing about imuran. I take mine at night and recently increased the dose. For several days I have woken in the middle of the night with terrible headaches. They seem to be getting a little better...

Yes, fatigue is quite common with Imuran too. When I first started 6mp I thought, what the heck?? Why is a med making me feel worse instead of better, but then my switch got thrown and all the side effects lessened and I actually started feeling better with my Uc. Hang tough! :)
