This was the message Nanners left on facebook and asked me to update you all on:
Still in hospital. On Wednesday they change the doc on call. Now just chg'd docs and I have one who doesn't believe in pain meds. So he tells me he going to consult with my GI. Another type of doc who doesnt believe in ppain meds. Sooo...I am of course in pain. *update* My GI just came in this morning and will talk to the floor doc and working on better pain mgnt. So pls pray that I can get some pain relief soon. I just want to feel better. By the way its not the Crohns but scar tissue & adhesions. The problem is bcuz they dont know how to fix it:( Plus why would my white blood count be going up? Thanks guys! I am missing you all so much. I never realized how much I depended on u too. I've seen quite a few posts here where people are being refused pains meds from their doctors, mostly people from North America, what the hell is up with that?

The only painkillers I've ever being refused was NSAIDs, why won't they giver her Tramadol or something along those lines? Absolute madness.

EDIT: Not refused, but advised not to take.

My message from Gail from this morning:

  "Had a colonoscopy yesterday which was very tramatic and painful. I had been fighting him on it. He said since I was in the hospital they could use different meds. So they used Fentanyl, and I had a bad reaction. I didn't who anyone was and ...was crying for my family, and my girls. Finally my niece & brother got here and felt more secure. But I was crying so much. Better 2day, but have to get my doc to prescribe my meds back to where they were. Stil hurting alot. THANKS ALOT for thinking of me. Love you!"

 

I feel so bad that things are so rough for her.

 

Perhaps we could keep a thread running all in one place re medical updates as I know PV  one this morning too.  :-)  
 

I know members from other forums know Gail and looking for info as they care about her.

Oh my! Poor you, Gail! ((((Gentle Hugs)))).

These docs are really messing with you. They just need to give you pain meds and leave it up to you to tell them how much you need. I hope your GI can get everything worked out for you.

I do wonder why your white blood count is high. Maybe you are also fighting an infection? Maybe they can do a blood and stool culture to see if anything shows up.

I don't "really" know you but there are tears of anger in my eyes right now because I know the pain you are talking about. Be very direct with the doctor. If it were me I would be tempted to tell the doctor that I would inflict on him the same level of pain that I am feeling and suggest that he abate my pain before I got started!! OK I am not a tough guy just a fun guy but I am mad for you and will say a prayer right now. Feel better soon

I am so sorry you are having to endure all of this! I am curious why they think the scarring and adhesions are not due to Crohn's? Isn't constant flaring in a certain area causing the scar tissue and adhesion's? I hate to say but my thinking is that surgery may be the better option so you can get out of that place and get on the road to feeling better.

That group of Dr.'s would make me crazy because holding back pain medicine to a needy patient is inhumane!

It's time someone in Gail's family get REALLY nasty with those doctors for crying out loud!!!!!! They need to be read a riot act about the pain meds and DEMAND that she be given them!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry you are going through this Gail...... Many thoughts and prayers for you.

Gail....I am so sorry you are suffering this much.  It is so sad that the docs do not listen to someone who is so in tune with their own care.  It would make their lives easier if they just listened to you...ahhh maybe that's it..play to their selfish side and tell them they can hit a few more white golf balls sooner if they just listened.  Ok that was a stereotype...but I just want them to listen.  Please know I think about you every day and hope for some relief very soon.

Does she have any family that can be there with her to advocate for her? Especially those idiot drs that don't believe in pain meds. She does have a right to have them if the pain is that bad. Just a thought for whoever is in contact with her to bring up an advocate.

How can doctors not believe in pain meds?! Don't you go to the hospital for relief with medications?? That's absolutely terrible and inexcusable. Is there a patient advocate she can talk to at the hospital? Or switch doctors? Or hospitals at this point? There's no excuse for what they're doing to her....

I'm so sad you're going through this, Gail....I really, really hope you feel better soon and they figure out a way to make you feel better. You're in our thoughts and prayers...

Good Morning All,

I talked with Gail via phone late yesterday afternoon and she was doing much better.  The pain medications were straightened out.  Her husband is with her in all his free time and she also has a neice that she is close too. She loves the nurses - hats off to the awesome nurses.

The Drs. feel she is not in a Crohn's flair but the adhesions and scar tissue that have developed over time are the major problem causing all the pain and problems she is having.  Her WBC is elevated so they changed her IV line and did a culture on the site.

Treatment plan still in process of being decided.

She always tells me how much she loves this forum and all of you as you are like family to her; she misses all of you however does not have computer access only her phone so she does try to read the messages and she says it makes her feel so good to read the loving posts.

I don't eny her this terrible time but I do envy how much all of you care for her.  You are a truly good friends to Gail.

Addition: FYI Gail used to co-mod the A & P Forum with me and we have become good friends and talk by phone - when one of us is in trouble we call each other.  :-) Just is case you were wondering  where in the world did I come from smhair being here in the Crohn's Forum.

jeez- hope you're feeling better!!!! the pain med situation we all have to deal with is BS!
they'd rather let you lay there in pain than give you something to make you comfortable...
but we're all junkies just looking for a fix right?
anyway i hope you're out of the hospital soon and out of pain!

"Hi all! Sorry I didnt update sooner. The on call doc is transitioning me from IV pain meds to oral meds. Problem is he was taking me from 1 mg Dilaudid every 3 hrs via iv to 2 mg Dilaudid every 8 hrs via oral. The change messes me up and I was in alot of pain. He now has it 2 mg every 6 hrs, so hopefully I wont be hurting as bad. My bowels finally moved today, and that caused alot of pain in my guts too. He couldnt even touch my side as it was too painful. So another Gi is supposed to come in and we will see what he says. So keep me in your prayers that we can get my pain controlled and get me back to feeling better. HUGS!"

I'm so glad to hear she is getting treated for pain and I am sure they will get the dosage right soon but geeeeeeeez they are taking a long time to come up with what to do in the end. Hope they can get their heads together soon and fix the trouble as well as cover it with pain meds. Again thank you so much stkitt .

Oh, Nanners! My heart and prayers continue going out to you. I don't know what I would do if I were so unfortunate as to be in the situation you are in. We've never found an oral pain med, other than OTC Tylenol and aspirin, that didn't make me sick to the point of vomiting. Since Crohn's took the aspirin option away, that leaves me w/just OTC Tylenol. When my pain is beyond Tylenol's abilities .... its IV pain meds or vomiting.

I've become totally unsympathetic to the druggies of this country who have made it so difficult for those genuinely in need of pain control. There are times I've been guilty of wishing they'd legalize all the illegal drugs and let the idiots kill themselves off so the innocent don't have to suffer!

It has to be hell for you to be prone to adhesions from surgery!!! (((hugs))) to a VERY SPECIAL lady.

Praying for you to get well every day Gail. Perhaps things are starting to turn around for you now. I am so sorry you had to go through all that pain for crying out loud~!!!! Glad they finally put you on some pain meds..... Big HUG for you to get better very soon!!!!

I would be glad to merge the threads but it would have to be done one post at a time as we do not have a feature that merges threads automatically.

Let me brain storm this a bit and see what I can come up with.
