Remicade and Asacol

I saw my GI nurse practitioner the other day.  She has started me on Asacol, for tabs in the morning, to go with my Remicade treatments.  Starting the Asacol again I have now been reminded that it tends to give me headaches when I start or stop it.  That is OK.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else uses Remicade and Asacol together? 

PS  My GI nurse practioner is a CDer too!  It is amazing how well she understands EVERYTHING!

asacol and immuran, 10mg pred kicker, pain meds as well

I've used Remicade with Imuran or Methotrexate before...they way they explained it was that they work together to help your body accept the Remicade...but I haven't heard of Asacol. It's probably the Asacol to treat the inflammatory symptoms and Remicade to treat the immune system...so one is kind of the cause and one is the symptoms...

If Asacol gives you headaches can you try something else like Lialda or something? Talk to your doc.

Thanks AG. Good to know I have company in this. Roo the nurse told me that the Asacol has a topical effect. What you have said makes it even more clear to me........of course now it makes sense. Only thing is the asacol makes me a little headachy sometimes.

My husband takes Lialda (same as Asacol, just time release I think), and Remicade. He also takes Canasa suppositories. Yes, Lialda and Canasa just have a topical effect, but it has been a good combination for my husband.

Hello PV. I seem to be having a good day today and I hope that topical effect is to credit. I have used canasa in the past and found it quite helpful in the colon. Thanks for that additional info and good news about your husband too!

Lialda is known to give headaches like Asacol. I took Asacol too though but don't recall having Headaches w/ it; other side effects though. Maybe I did & the other side effects were more major & I didn't notice though...

Pick your poison. I recall some brutal ones if I was/am just starting on a Lialda binge.

Thanks. If I remember the "sulfa" drugs give me headaches only when I start or stop them. So I am hopeful. Seems like every CD drug I have used has hurt me. :( As you said "poison" but necessary.
