Generic Entocort is how much?

Since they just released the generic entocort and some of you were responding saying your copay was $5, I thought I would check into it and see if I could switch over to it instead of using the compounded budesonide I've been using and paying $40 for (insurance doesn't cover the compounded). I called my GI first to see if he would be okay with that and he hadn't even heard of them releasing a generic and said I could call my pharmacy and see if they carry it and how much it would be. So I called the pharmacy and they didn't have it in stock, but for them to order it for me it would $900!!!! seriously? I thought it was supposed to be cheaper than the brand, and I double checked with the pharmacist to make sure it was the generic and he said it was. *shrug*

I'll probably be sticking with the compounded for the time being...

$900 for a 30-day supply? How much is the brand name drug?

yes, 900 for a 30 day supply! I think the brand is around 1000-1500 for a 30 day.

Wife's 30 day 60 pill supply of the brand drug is $1,200 paid by ins she pays a co-pay of $30

For me my 30 days supply is 1700 or there abouts according to my script reciept that my insurance covers

I went to get my Entocort filled and they wanted $500 for it with my insurance.  So, I decided to go with the generic formula, but it was still $108 with my insurance!! Ridiculous!! I had a coupon from my dr., but the Manufacturer decided to end the promotion since there is now a generic formula!

Hi, as all of you are speaking in dollars i am assuming you are all in the U.S.....correct me if i'm wrong but it would seem to me from what i'm reading that either the insurance companies or the dispensing chemists/pharmacies are holding you all to ramsom...it seems that drug prices are not controlled?...we have a drug dependant scheme here....the total you pay in any calender month is 120 euro(about 100 dollars) once you reach this amount you don't pay any more...i should say at this point that all members of the family are covered on this...this 120 euro cut off point is per household....i have private health ins ...basically you pay for your inital consultation then everything that follows ie hospitalization/tests/labs etc is covered...the only difference between our health care system and private health cover is waiting times...through the system i would be waiting up to 6 months to see my GI...as it is i only have to ring and get appointment within 2 weeks...stinks i know but that's how it is here in the emerald isle.....

Dear conmire,

It boggles the mind that many people in the US think your system is a bad thing. Our prez floated a system that would allow everyone to purchase insurance and many decry it. They refer to your waiting times, call it socialism, etc. Because I have insurance, I would pay a $7 co pay for a 30 day supply of Entocort. Others without insurance are faced with being unable to afford the meds. Many of the meds for difficult cases of Crohns and UC fall into the astronomical price range.

Perhaps someone in the community would organize a political action group to lobby for the rights of all Americans to be able to afford needed meds.

I bought my Entocort from Canada and still buy my Pentassa from there. Although still crazy expensive, I think a one month supply is around $180.00. On my insurance it was $1200 for a month of Entocort. The pentassa is different than what is sold in the states, However, I verified with the drug manufaturer that the entocort is 100% the same. I have no idea why anyone would buy their entocort in the US. I know there are a number of great pharmacies in Canada, but I also understand there a few shady ones like lots of other things for sale on the internet. You can do the research like I did and you might find an een better option than what I use, however when I really researched price and how ligit the company was I decided on Jan Drugs. The price I pay has not changed since my first order, and they were the cheapest (or very close) when I really looked at pricing, so now I just make sure there has been no price increase and order. You might find some one who is cheaper and if you do I would appreciate it if you would let me know

If you use Jan Drugs 3 things to note
1) Make sure to specify you want the Entocort sourced in Canada. Sourced from else where might be the same, but i can not say for sure. I know sourced from Canada is the same. I think you pay a bit more for this, but for me it was easily worth it
2) Ask for free shipping. Shipping is about 10 bucks and they always say yes to me when I ask
3) If you say you were recommended by me (david Fenton) then you get an additional 10 or 15 bucks off. I also, get 10 or 15 bucks off my next purchase.

Between the pentassa and the entocort I was freaking our at the total cost. I was so lucky. I bought from canada, which reduced the cost to a managable amount, then I did SCD and went into remmission, and now I take a minimal dose of pentassa a day (3 x 500), which works out to about $65 per month coming out of Canada.

one more thought. I know there are at least a few other folks who buy there drugs in canada. Perhaps they could weigh in on where they buy and how much they pay.

I was just told that my insurance will no longer cover entocort w/o a copay of $130 because the generic was just released. I opted for the generic but wasn't able to discuss with my doc's office since he is not open on fridays...how does everyone like the generic?

any difference. I'm not feeling so great today but it could be just a coincidence.

My generics look like the real deal, they still say entocort on the pills.  I don't think I notice much difference although I went back on a reduced dosage to help me through some highly stressful times.  I would definitely give them a shot.

I live in Oregon and my insurance will not cover the entocort.  It is over 1400. per month. Who can afford that?  Last month I ordered the entocort from Jan pharmacy in canada and it was 192.00. they were quick to ship, and the meds are helping.  I just called my local pharmacy to ask how much the generic entocort is now that it is available...she said its still over 1000.00 per 100 pills (month)...CRAZY.  Canada will be getting my business. Many thanks to all who helped me when I had the same question...this forum is great.

Just went to the pharmacy today and picked up 11 scripts...I try to make as few trips as possible to that end of town with gas prices being what theyare...while there that was the 1st thing I checked i am on generic Entocort when I an done with my july bottle's worth (so probably a week or so). I compared the price listed ont he papers which states it was 1624.99 for 90 capsules. it is from the company Mylan and rather then the capsule being white and orange it is all orange with black lettering on both halves. the price listed on the papers is what the insurance covers (mine is medicare part D through cvs silver script) and in prior months if I remember correctly the brand name is 1834.99 a month so not a huge amount of savings but it adds up.

My insurance is also supplimented with medicaide so the state pays my copays for doc appts in addition to giving me cheaper copays at the pharmacy instead of 20@ of cost I pay 2.50 fpor generics and 6.50 fpr name brand each month until i reach a certain limit then they become 100% covered through medicare...with my current meds I payed 55 in copays before getting it cost free then again of those 11 scripts I got today they are Humira (4 syringes a month) Pentasa 8 of the 500mg a day, entocort 9mg a day, proair (asthma inhaler), Singulair 10mg a day, levsin, percoset (generic), elavil (generic), tizanidine, maxalt (for migraines) flonase, and that was it for today...I think it is when the whole cost reaches a certain amount rather than what costs I pay, I know prior to being placed on etocort it took a couple months more before i didnt have copays

Lets hope the generic works just as well for me as the brand name, I know some pleople find generics of some meds do not work as well as name brands for them

Sorry llama would have added this had I seen your post before i added a reply from reading the top post I too am in Oregon I have OHP QMB (which means it is supplimental to my medicare) maybe go to Senior disability services in your county i am in Josephone county and that is who I go to however I dont know your situation financially etc I have been on SSD since 08 and only get 743 a month in ssd you may want to investigate other options maybe even contact the company of both the name brand and generic like Humira they may have assistance in payment
