Crohns Patient

Hi Marvin and welcome to Healingwell!! I have anxiety too! I developed it tho after years of having this disease. But.....the early years were very mild years and my bad years have been since my emergency resection in 2002. I was prescribed the lowest dose of Xanax .25mg, and that has helped alot. I don't have to use it everyday, but on those bad days it really is a lifesaver. We also have many members who are on depression meds also. You are not alone in your feelings, who wouldn't be anxious with this horrible disease. We are always worrying about bathroom locations, or if we are going to get sick and ruin a vacation or event for our significant others. Or others issues we suffer with having Crohns.

Please don't let this stop you from enjoying life. Please go see your family doc and discuss maybe getting some kind of med to help out in those tough times. Big hugs!

I also had a lot of anxiety when I was first diagnosed about 6 weeks ago. But with medication (zoloft, and xanax when i feel the need) I do a lot better. They can help.

I've never had a problem with driving and have never felt I wasn't acting normally around people when I have had to take my anti-anxiety meds. The trick is to start with the lowest dose possible. I will usually start out with half a pill and wait a half hour. Usually it is enough to get it back to a manageble level. For me, it just helps me to feel "normal" again. If you take when you don't need it, it can make you sleepy and you could be a danger if you drive then. Just be very careful to only take it when needed, anti-anxiety meds can be very addictive!
