Heya Miss,
As posted somewhere else, I'm always up every morning sick. So I spend time cruising the forums, dispensing untold wisdom (yeah right), ok I dispense a bunch of crohns rhetoric.
Either way, yes Pred sucks, I'm working with getting offf it now, on the other hand, pred has saved me from flare ups withing a couple days on a high dose, and then the doc would quickly drop it down to bout 20 mg for a while, then try and taper totally.
Nan was just telling me in another thread about Immuran and 6MP, which my Doctor never mentioned to me all these years as maintenance meds. I've just been doing pred, get sick tapering and go back on pred.
So with Nan's advice I wrote my Doc, and he agreed that immuran might help me get through the tapering this time and move forward. My first time with the drug, so I'm hesitant, but have little choice.
If you just got the pred give it a couple days, if it isnt working get in contact with your primary or gi, or an assistant to the primary or gi, in my experience, the asistants to Doctors have been some of my best friends.
My other advice for getting through a flare, I drink ensure, I only eat handfuls of food, grapes, oatmeal, tons of water, NO soda, snacks or anything processed, although I'm sure your stomach has already ruled out crap food for you.
You said something that hit me at the end as quite familliar, not somethng I read about often here.
The pain that waistbands from any from of pants or shorts actually causes pain over time to my abdominal area as well.
Here comes the part where you can laugh, at home I now where a red Union Suit, it is basicly a one piece thermal type underwear, no waistband. If I have to go out, I wear painters over-alls. Took me for ever to find these, finaly found them at sears.
I live in the city, boy do people love to see me in my over-alls, it's always a conversation starter, especialy during the summer.
Please come back and post wether the pred helped you and how your doing.
Thanks
Jon
