Hi Donatron and welcome to Healingwell. Yes it is quite common to feel like that. And Crohns can be anywhere from the mouth to the anus, so the mouth ulcers are common for some Crohnies. As for diet, it is pretty individual for most of us. You should try to keep a food diary to keep track of what agrees and what doesn't. I personally follow a low residue diet all the time. It is easy to chew and easy to digest. You can google the diet and on some GI sites they have examples of what you can and shouldn't eat. Others follow diets like SCD or Makers Diet. These diet are a little more restrictive and must be followed to the letter to work properly, but we do have members who have had success with them.

The low residue diet is usually a flare diet. In other words, good for when your disease is active. Once you get your diagnosis and get onto the right meds you will start to feel better. What ever you do though, make sure you stay on the maintenance meds the doc gives you even when you start feeling better. This is a chronic and incurable bowel disease and must be treated at all times. Diet may help, but should be considered as complimentary along with meds. Ask any and all questions you have, someone is sure to have an experience to share. And no worries, no question is too gross:) Hugs!

Donnatron I am in the process of recovering from a stress induced flare. I have been at the same job 22 years and they recently changed how we do things. It was like all those 22 years I worked there, I was again the newby. The stress added with some other personal stressors did me in. Stress is definetly not the friend of a Crohnie. "Hello, & Welcome to The Healingwell Site." You have come to such a wonderful forum & community w/amazing members. I am sorry that you are having bowel problems. Living with this pain & in a bathroom is just horrible to live with.

I currently have a ileostomy since May 2011. I too, have stuggled with I.B.S/I.B.D, intestinal ulcers since I was potty-trained (i am 46-now). I got C-Diff the first time when my appendix ruptured following a C-Section. Which turned into Psuedomembraneous Colitis (1986). Since then I can no longer take any antibiotics, or eat red meat (too difficult to digest). I have had C-Diff over 15-times since then, & my daughter at age 11 had her first bout with C-Diff. Out of my 7-kids, 3-have I.B.S.

Loop ileostomy, Pelvic & Bladder Trauma Dysfunction...Caused by Colon tearing thru vaginal wall, then colon + bladder fell out of my body thru the vagina opening. 15-surgeries & a couple more this year.

I too am new to the Crohn's family.  I am 29 in Orlando, FL.  I am on my 3rd round of Prednisone and I just started Imuran.  I cannot seem to get the swelling to go down in my intestines.  My GI is really pushing Remicade, but to be honest I am a little scared.  I have read the literature and I am a pharmacy tech so I have great resources to rely on, but this stuff sounds scary.  I know they have to tell you all the side affects but sometimes they just sounds bad.  I have heard that people have great results with the Remicade. 

I start a new job tomorrow that will be less stressful than the job I am leaving so I'm thinking I might just wait it out for a few months and see if the lower stress level helps in the healing process.

It's nice to have this forum just to get everything out.  Thank you!

It can be frustrating to get through feeling lousy, what you can eat, and the medication. I was scared when I first got the DX..The only thing I had ever heard of was a professor's wife dying from CD..I was like am I going to die or end up completely disabled?? I learned a lot from this forum that were going through the same things I was..I have not hit complete remission but have gone through some periods of being flare free..I can understand being afraid of accidents..I was afraid to go out and having to be stuck in public bathrooms or worse..New jobs were a fear of flaring and being stuck in the bathroom..I could not go out to lunch like a normal person for along time..This does get easier and bearable..The people who have this DD are full of courage and understanding..I almost had to go through a grieving process at first when one minute I was sad and the next minute angry that this had altered my life..I found "miracle mouthwash" from the pharmacy to be the best for mouth sores..I have a very good doctor now which I have not always had in the past..This can make all the difference..When I first got sick, I had an experimental doctor and a jerk for a gastro doctor..I see an internist now who has a specialty in dealing with autoimmune disease..

Yes, you'll probably need a prescription for Oracort. It is a dental steroid paste that adheres to the ulcer and heals them quickly while reducing pain fast too.

Gargling with warm salty water helps, too.

Also, you might find a multi-blend probiotic helpful with your bowels. Many of us CDers here are on them.
