Hi :)

Just thought I'd post a bit about myself.
I was diagnosed with crohn's disease May 2010 after suffering with symptoms for what seemed like forever! I went to my family doctor complaining of cramps, bloating and severe burning pains in my lower right abdomen. She dismissed me and finally after a week of the pain escalating I went back to the doctor but saw another doctor and she sent me for an ultra sound. They called me the next day saying that it seems serious and we'd schedule a follow up soon but if it got bad to go to the emergency room. So the next day, lo and behold it got bad, and I ended up in the ER with a diagnosis and a new G.I. as well as an abscess.

I've been on entocort and prednisone and am currently on remicade.

i hope you're feeling better! just make sure that you're not on prednisone for more than 6 months at a time because it takes the opposite effect after that. i blew up from water retention and i gained sooo much weight! it took about a whole year off prednisone to regain my normal body shape! it was horrible!

I'm off prednisone now after trying it for a month (and another week by iv) and my face bloated so much! I looked like a chipmunk!! What a great way to start off university! People are only now seeing how I really look as my face goes back down to normal.

i was the same!!!!! i cant even look at old pictures from 2 years ago! i looked so retarded! whats worse, is that nobody really told me and it was only recently when i looked back that i realized how weird i looked. i think i gained 15 lbs in a blink of the eye. (im usually 120lbs at 5'7 so that extra weight made me just feel absolutely terrible). :(

im sooo soo happy you're off it!!!!!

Same here!! I look back on those pictures and I cannot believe I didn't see it!! And I'm still worried I have a bloated face and it's been almost a year that I've been off it! I guess it doesn't help that the last time I saw may face without bloating it was sunken and skinny from the malnourishment of being undiagnosed so I have a false sense of what my face should look like lol

And I'm normally 120 at 5'3 but i went down to 100lbs at my sickest and I've gained it back (thanks to prednisone lol)

hehe you'll slowly but surely go back to your normal shape! if you have the energy, start exercising! i dont like doing it in public in case i need a bathroom but i have zumba dvds and other workout ones that i do by myself here at home! totally helped too cuz i lost soo much muscle from the ups and downs of this crohn's crap business.

my GI also told me to get a dog since i used to get depressed easily and i've had a chihuahua for the past 3 years that has been there sitting with me in the bathroom and by my side when i cried in bed. i cant even picture my life without him :P

awww that's so sweet!

Yeah my dog seemed to know exactly when I was feeling bad, so intuitive!

and i've been doing some stuff near home and bikeriding. I'm starting out small since I lost all my muscle during my steroid treatment.

good! that'll take up your time including your studies so that you dont feel bad about yourself! :D

when i was diagnosed at 21 i was so messed up in the head and was soo depressed that i lost who i was. it took me until freaking 28-29 to get it right. i hope you dont go through any of that!!!!

Pred is a med we love to hate. I love that it gets me feeling better quickly, but not always a fan of the side effects. Sometimes its not bad, other times yuck. But if I am sick, I will take it no questions. I would rather not suffer. Hugs!
