Thought I would share my exp with doing Triathlons, Cycling etc.. I know that we with Crohns can push the limits and doing full Triathlons might not be the best thing. I have done Sprints & Olympic Distances and found the following diet to work well.
*** Just listing the products so that it might aid others with Crohns** in no way is this a sales pitch to buy these products** as other posters have put in their post
My History is Diag-1988- have had small bowel resection about 2 feet. Had Gall Bladder years later. Have been on 6mp for almost 20 years
Since I had my gallbladder out- was unable to time the bowel movements well, as when the gallbladder is taken out, the bile form the stomach which is stored in the Gallbladder , flows more freely and causes more bowel movements--- Doctor Suggested Cholestyramine -- This has been a saver!! Works very well
My Routine before a race and most every day
Day before race- In the AM- Move bowels then-- use the Cholestyramine with water 1 packet-- wait 30 mintues before eating / drinking anymore liquid
Eat dinner for Breakfast-- Mashed Patatoes -- the kind like that are pre made in store, nuke them-- eat 1 to 2 cups. Have some steak, meatloaf, chicken, and what ever you normally would have for Dinner.--- I also like to use Peptamen 1- 2 cans from Nestle-- if your doctor writes a letter of necessity- like in MA or NH insurance company will pay for it minus your Deductible
Later AM-- Snack-- Whatever works, I usually have sandwich --- P&J--- or cream of rice
LUNCH-- Again, normal -- Sandwiches - Apple Sauce, more mashed potatoes -- Peptamen
Later Afternoon -- Snack-- and Peptamen
Dinner-- I eat breakfast -- 3-4 eggs scrambled -- whipped up with your choice-- I like heavy cream, about 1/2 cup. 3 toast -- apple sauce-- Peptamen
Have a snack later-- peptamen
Then for race Day-- Get up 3 or 4 AM Move bowels --- Take the Cholestyramine 1 packet, wait 30 minutes , then eat some mashed potatoes, toast, apple sauce and have a Cera Drink PLUS I use CERA SPORT EX-1 in my bottles on the legs of the race-- its a specific formula for us Crohns folks
