hi everyone, I had tapered my pred down to 15mg a day but since then have not felt as good. also on pentasa 4000mg and aza 50mg. when i saw my ibd nurse on monday and told her i didnt feel as good and was getting more right sided pain and upper abdo pain she has upped my preds to 25mg and the aza to 100mg. took the increased dose of aza on Monday night and at 3.30am was in the bathroom throwing up. Have carried on with the meds but feel rotten, no appetite feel a bit sick loads of pain. Could this sickness be due to the increase of aza the nurse said any problems to let her know but i don't like to be a pest when i know she is so busy. the pain is a little worse but is the same pain i had before the med increase, the nurse said the last blood test still showed inflammation. hope you can give me some advise.xx

Aza can cause nausea im not sure vomiting is all that common, i do not know. I do know however when I was being sick it was because my intestines were trying to work so hard that food and mostly fluids could not pass.

Did you vomit mostly fluids? Did she say how high your inflammation was?

Honestly I would be calling her back, I know it feels like youre pestering them, but some weeks i can ring my nurses 3 or 4 times in one week! I actually get moaned at now for not getting myself checked out and struggling on. There is never any harm in getting checked over!

In the mean time i would suggest if you are not already going onto a more liquid diet, soups and broths pro biotics and lots of water and if you have any take some anti sickness tablets.

I am pretty sure its the Aza causing your nausea. I would go back down on your dose of Aza, and give the nurse a call. Hugs!

thank you for your replies. no she didn't say how high the inflammation was and no it was all undigested food ( didn't know i'd eaten so much) Have not got much of an appetite and don't feel so sick this pm and the pain doesn't seem so bad but i have just eaten so i see how i go. If i still feel sick tomorrow i will give her a ring. thank you both once again.xx

did they do more blood work before they uppd the dose of aza? i know that was a huge deal to my doc before he upped mine- i don't take it anymore bc i felt i kept getting colds- that being the 3rd immunosuppresent i was on...on the pain side- i suffered for a long time. my gi refused to deal with the pain so i went to a pain clinic. the doc happened to have crohn's in his family so i didn't even have to explain...i've been seeing him for a year now. i take percocets for the pain and they do wonders- i can make it through the day, pay with my daughter etc...my quality of life is so much better! i would seek out a pain doc. no one should have to suffer and if you need to address that symptom then do it! good luck!

hi all, was up again vomiting last night plus loose bm's. spoke to my nurse this am and she said to miss the aza tonight and take just 50mg in the morning until Monday when i have to call her again. yes they did blood work before i started then a week later when it showed there was still inflammation. if i don't eat the pain is not so bad and at the moment cos I'm feeling sick i don't want to eat. i am just having a liquid diet today. thank you all for your advise its nice to know your not on your own.xx
