Congratulations! My little humira baby is almost a year old. I hope to add another in a couple of years.

mtgman - I too struggle with the fear of passing this disease on, but I realize that we are given what we can handle in life. I will keep an everwatchful eye on my kiddo and try and catch anything before it gets bad. However, I was the first in my family with this condition.

mtgman -- that really doesn't bother me and DH has bowel issues/suspect Crohn's so we have a higher risk. The risk then is still small and like almost30, I think any child of a Crohnnie will be in a better position to handle the illness should it happen. I was put most at ease by statistics they gave at the educational conference put on by my CCFA chapter. I don't remember the numbers, but a very large number of americans have the same genes we do to predispose them to get this disease and they will never get it. That's because you need a predisposition and a trigger. I feel like the odds aren't sure my kids will get the gene and if they do, it may never be triggered.

mtgman - Sure, I've wrestled the same fears, but like everything else I've had to fear with this disease the past 22 years, I don't let it hold me back. Live life, I say. I recall asking my doctor some of these questions, too.

Will my meds hurt chances of my wife getting pregnant?
Will they hurt the development of my baby?
What is the risk my kids have this disease?

IF, and that's a big IF, they get this disease, then you will be much better equiped to handle this than your parents were.
