Has anyone gone off Remicade out of choice and then returned to it later on?

Hi everyone,   I hope you are all well. I thought it was about time I posted, since I haven’t been on the forums for such a long time!   Things with me are good… I’m working way too much, to the point where I am doing 12 hour days and coming home exhausted and teary, so I will be looking at new options in the near future.. But first, Thailand! I’m flying out on the 26 th for three weeks in Thailand with my boyfriend Ben. His mother is Thai but he was born in Australia and hasn’t been to Thailand since he was 14. It’s going to be great I’m really looking forward to it – a long deserved holiday!   I’m still on Remicade, my next infusion is this coming Monday 19 th . I’ve been having regular blood work done and faecal cal protectant (?) tests (stool samples), with the latest one measuring my levels to determine whether or not I should have a colonoscopy before I go off Remicade. Basically my specialist is thinking of taking me off Remicade since I am in remission. If I begin to flare again he can put me straight back on without having to go through the dreaded 12-week application process….   Has anyone else gone off Remicade for a time and then back on it from choice?   I’ve been feeling healthy and good.. but these last few weeks feeling nauseous all the time, though I have a feeling that might be a bug or stress-related. I’m going to see how I go after this infusion.. whether or not the nausea clears up. Has anyone had something similar on remicade? I've been on it for a couple of years now.. how time flies!   Anyway there’s my little ramble / update.. I hope you are all doing well… miss this place!   P

Hi Ivy, so lovely to hear from you!!! Covermmore insurance is the best bet... somebody from the Crohn's & Colitis Association Australia gave me a friendly phonecall and then email. For future reference (any Aussie Chronies) The below companies were recommended:

Covermore, AIG, SureSave, QBE, Columbus Direct, STA travel

Covermore was great and didn't require a Dr’s signature unless a heart condition was involved. However the $300+ premium wasn’t so nice, and seeing as I’m officially in remission, I decided on not paying the premium and instead going with regular insurance which means I will still be covered for hospitalisation etc, just not hospitalisation related to crohn’s.

I am a bit scared of going off Remicade given its ‘wearing off’ after the 8 week cycle, but I trust my specialist so emphatically that I do believe he’s doing the right thing by me. It is scary, though..

Hi Phoebe i've been on remicade since last November 2010 my Chrons is doing fine but they decided to take me off my 10mg of prednisone after 25 years and beleive me, going off this crap aint' funny cause your body is asking for it  after so many years and now all of my joints and bones are really really sore and in pain. so think about it first or make certain you know the reaction off getting off medications.
