This thread is plenty long already, but I just wanted to say that I agree with you, Kazbern, that the passage of mucus is an indication of INFLAMMATION. Also, it is indeed true that any diagnosis that includes the word "SYNDROME" in its title means that the medical community does NOT KNOW what it is. I'm an RN and I have Crohn's disease and probably IBS as well, so hopefully that buys me a little extra cred;) As you all probably know, mucus is what the body produces in response to some substance that is irritating it- just like your nose produces mucus in response to allergens if you have "allergies." Mucus is the body's way of protecting itself. I cannot be sure that mucus isn't involved in IBS, however! I don't believe that I am in a flare at this time, but I still produce quite a bit of mucus:(
