stomach cramping hard to breath

I am awaiting blood work for final diagnosis b/t cd or uc, doctor is leaning towards crohn's :-(
lately my stomach feels like a big huge block of cement, is feels hard and heavy and almost
like having a charly horse all the time. worse whenever i eat, it's almost kind of hard to take a
deep breath too, has anyone felt this way ?
can i take something now over the counter that will calm this down ?

Hi Jewelz and welcome to Healingwell. I am not sure what to recommend, but maybe something like Gas-X or Maalox to help the gassy bloat???

You say you are waiting for blood test results for your diagnosis? Have you had a colonoscopy with biopsies yet? If not, you really should be having that. The blood tests are not always reliable, but the biopsies provide confirmation. Hugs!

wow that was a fast reply :) yes i had the colonoscopy and endoscopy a week ago, they found an ulcer in the ilium and my stomach lining looks like a brain, it's got all kinds of folds throughout, and he say's he's not even sure what that is, i think that scares me more than maybe having uc or cd, have you ever heard of anyone haveing a stomach with all kinds of folds in it ? anyway i am prone to contispation and my doctor perscribed miralax a year ago and i have been taking it everyday since, but i found out a month ago i am anemic and the iron supplements constipate me, so i take another stool softner in the evenings, long story sorry but i want to try Gas-X or Maalox but do you think it will constipate me ?

No actually Maalox can sometimes give me looser stools the next day, so that would be a plus for you. Gas-x never effects my bowels negatively either. I usually suffer with more constipation than diarrhea with my Crohns, but coming out of a big flare right now, so no longer have the constipation. Crohns can be anywhere from mouth to anus, so its possible to have in your stomach too. Hugs!

Welcome to the site. It is a great resource and support group. if you are hurting when you eat I would suggest trying a clear liquid diet until you can see your GI doctor or talk to them on the phone.

Your welcome jewelz!!! We are a great group here, and no question is too embarrassing. If you are diagnosed with Crohns, stick with us, someone is sure to have an experience to share with you, and you will receive lots of love and support. If you are diagnosed with UC we also have a great forum for UC.  By the way just from your description of your testing, I am leaning towards Crohns.  But I am not a doc, just giving my thoughts. thank you dolphin424, that is a great suggestion and i will try that right now also! i know i am hurting more so now because i am under some great stress with waiting to see the dx is and my sister in law just lost her 29 yr old son, so we are doing funeral services etc out of state and flying and i am just really having a lot of anxiety along with everything else, i appreciate the (((Hugs)))) and feel so much better just knowing there are people who feel the same things and there are people i can talk too without being embarresed, i've got chills just thinking how good it is to find you all !! my husband want to know if there is a site for him called "living with a crohnie" lol, he has been a great support and keeps me in focus :)

Oh stress is definetly not our friend. So sorry about your nephew, so young, will keep your family in my prayers. Tell hubby to read the posts here, he will get an idea of what you and others are suffering with. I wish we had a caregivers forum, I think its really needed sometimes. Hugs!

Thank you Nanners, i am realizing right away that i do not handle the stress as well as i had in the past, i will let hubby know and maybe if he has questions i could find him the answers and then he can read what this is all about, thank you all for your hugs and advise i wish you all well too :)

I don't know if your iron supplements are prescription or if you are just doing OTC. But I struggle with anemia and I can't tolerate Iron pills. I found a liquid iron supplement at the health food store that doesn't upset my stomach and it also says on there that it is non-constipating. It seems a lot of people tolerate the liquid better than the pills. Might be worth asking your doctor about.

Another thing is Cream of Wheat has almost 50% of our daily iron intake. I have been having a bowl a day while in my flare and trying to get my iron up. A bonus is it is also easily digested, considered a whole liquid I think. It is quite yummy if made with milk and brown sugar!

omg cream of wheat sounds delicious !!! i can't remember the last time i've had it, but i know i like it, thank you so much. my iron is perscription (pills) and 3 times a day, to tell you honestly, i can't even tell if it upsets my stomach because my stomach is usually upset all the time, and i take it with food, but i will definately ask the doctor ( i am actually putting together a list ) about liquid iron, as i already have a history of constipation and i would like to eventually not have to take so much miralax and the other stool softener at night as well. oh and Nanners, by the way i took some liquid maalox about 1/2 hour and it seems to have calmed my stomach a little, thank you so much !!

Hello out there !!!   the doctor's nurse called me, blood work and biopsies are in, i do not have cd or uc, i don't have inflamation or bacteria !!! YEAHHH !!!! i am so releived smilewinkgrin       but, now what do i have?

i am still anemic, still having having these pains and still have the ulcer in my small intestine. has anyonne been through this ?   any ideas about what else this could be or can you point me in the right direction ?
