I am also having a problem getting purinethol.  All london drugs in b.c. dont have any nor does shoppers drug mart.  Called supplier of drug and might have shipment by September 25th this is crazy.  So called gastroenterologist and he said a couple of weeks without it is okay.  Since nothing else works for me.  Anyone have any suggestions where I might get some sooner!!!

In the US, we have a generic called mercaptopurine. Perhaps you could order some from here? I order from Canada a lot, never 6mp but I order Asacol generic (we don't have a generic in the US). Mercaptopurine is not too expesive but it's not cheap and you wouldn't be able to use insurance I doubt. Hopefully you're able to get some before the 25th. I have taken a few weeks off and haven't had any problems with a flare up.

I have the same problem here in Qc.  3 weeks ago, I went to pick my Purinethol and they were completely out of stock.  There is no more Purinethol in Canada ... however, a company from here that are now producing generic 6MP.  It comes in capsules of 25mg and 50mg.  Maybe your pharmacy could contact them.  If you need more info, let me know, I can give you the name of this company.

Just an FYI for those in the Greater Toronto Area. Purinethol is definetly on back order for everyone. I spoke with the Buyer at Toronto Gerneral Hospital and they estimate mid November, but he did say that is not a hard date. My doctor jsut changed my perscription to Azathioprine (Imuran) which I believe does the exact same thing.

I didn't realize there was a shortage until I picked up my meds yesterday. My pharmacist gave me a week's worth and is expecting some more by Monday or Tuesday. From her comments, she expects this to continue for at least 2 more months.

I'm glad I started Remicade 2 weeks ago. Hopefully the Mercaptopurine will not be an issue.

Does anyone know when the shortage of Purinethol will end...or where a supply of the medication can be obtained? My daughter has been without the drug for over 1 month and Imuran no longer works for her. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
