I want to start a group house for people with chronic illnesses?

Firstly i know its a farfetched idea. i want to start a group home or something of the like for people with these types of chronic illnesses. they have them for recovering alchoholics, developementally disabled and emotional disorders, but i can'tfind any for people who just are too physically sick too work, escept for nursing homes which are scary! I dont want to actaully start a group home, that would be too difficult and impossible, just a house for a few people with chronic illnesses who can't workbecause of them. i know this would also be very difficult but still doable if i can find people interested and people who would respect eachothers boundaries. I want to do this because i have no family or friends to support me. Im 22 and try to go to college, its near impossible. I can barely leave myy apt. i have gastroparesis and so many other problems like severe ongoing fatigue which seems to cause most of my problems. It's impossible for me to work right now i do hope to be able to some day. I get social security right now as my only source of income i barely make it financially.I can't seem to find any freinds who can relate and i am so lonely and just want a family like group of people to support me. some might suggest a church, but ive gone to several and its doesnt work cuz they dont understand either since they dont have a chronic illness. also im not a christian. just having one friend who understood would help, but i don't. Does anyone have any suggestions or any thoughts on this?

I commend you for trying to think of ideas on how to help others as well as yourself.

Starting a boarding house is a matter of getting the right licenses and permits from the city or county in which you live. After passing all requirements, sit down and decide all of the important factors, like rent and rules. This will be a business, so be prepared to keep good books. And remember to treat it like a business. A business of your own is a 24 hour a day responsibility.

I am also wondering if this is something that could be well raised with your local newspaper, and your local politicians.

I think that there is a real, and neglected, need, for this sort of service for chronically ill people, and wish you all the best in your quest.

I hope that you'll join some of the forums here and contribue in the discussions, as it's a great way to find people who understand what you're going through, and can offer you lots of support and friendship and sympathy as you struggle through each day.

thanks for the responses. It would'nt rly bea  boarding house or a group home, like I said that would be impossible for me and unnecessary. I'm just trying to figure out to get roommates one day that have chronic illnesses. maybe not roommates but it would still be nice. I want something like a family, but not the traditional kind.

I was thinking maybe through a support group. You might be able to connect with others in a similar situation and by pooling your resources you could find a place that would be out of your reach financially, but together you could get a nice little house or condo to share. You also might be able to connect with people who are in a rehab facility simple because they have no family to take care of them after an extended illness and need some extra support before discharge to their own care. Contact some Social Service agencies in your area. Send out some letters. The worst thing that can happen is you don't get a reply or they say no. I think as Crohnies we have had a lot worse happen.

we kind of think alike.  i want to start a company (a real one- not a sham) where people with chronic illnesses can make a decent living working at home.
