Anyone try Domperidone

GI just prescribed it. Have to get it in Canada. I feel like like it's another shot in the dark.

I have been on it since April. I can get mine from a compounding pharmacy a few towns away. When I first started on it, I think it worked for what I needed. Now I don't think it is helping, but I think my initial problem has resolved. I had just had surgery and don't think my system had fully woken up yet, so the domperidone got things moving. Now my doctor is stuck on the idea that all my issues are motility, but the motility tests are negative and it doesn't seem to matter if I take the domperidone or not. But I am back to where I was or worse before the surgery, so I don't think its a motility issue.

Why did your doctor put you on it? Have you started it or are you still waiting to fill it?

Zanne- thanks for the reply, I am a little apprehensive so few people are on this drug or know about it.  I have UC and my GI just DX Crohns; about a year ago, I lost the ability to eat all solid food, it hurts when it goes down and I am instantaneously nauseated and will often vomit.  I've have had two hospitalizations in the past year for the inability to eat, sometimes even drink.  Blood work fine, Barium test looks so far "normal," in fact, the tech was so surprised on how fast the Barium went through the colon, so I'm not sure its not a motility problem (when I think motility I think the problem must have to be slow to cause this much pain?, hummm have to think about that one).  I haven't looked into purchasing the drug yet, b/c, one, it's a hassle and, two, it's just another drug given to me when yet again nobody knows what's really going on.

One of the Fellows I saw in Boston told me that it is available as an OTC drug in Europe (he was English), so I think more people might be using it, but under a different name. You might want to look into a compounding pharmacy. There should be one near every major city and it might be easier to get it that way. The Pharmacy I get it from has it readily available because they have a lot of patients on it. In other words, they stock it. I do have to pay for it out of pocket (about $70/month), but it did help in the beginning. At this point I am not sure if it helps or not, but I am not messing with my meds.

im on and off it regularly, mostly when i am on pred. helps massively with my nausea which can often lead to me also having no appetite etc. it is available OTC here its obviously just a different brand called motillium but if prescribed i usually get domperidone. In your case i would also be dubious about it helping if you are having physical pain with eating.. i hate to ask because i hate hearing it myself, but could there be any chance is psychological? just a thought as it happens with young children and its understandable why we ourselves could build up an issue about eating when it can cause such severe pain.

Novice-I've been DX w bowel diseases for well over a decade and the inability to not eat just began a year ago and I definitely have many physical sx's that just can't be psych. Although, I will admit I do now have an aversion to food bc I know it will cause pain; I just rather not eat solids bc of all the problems it causes me. I've lost a lot of weight and soon I will start to look sickly. It does amaze me how many people at work have congratulated me on my weight loss and asked me for my "secret" and when I tell them I'm sick many say hey at least your thin--unbelievable.

I'm not surprised you have a hang up with solid food! And yeah I have often got the envied look of others when I've become sick and lose weight but people like that never really understand.
I really hope the domperidone works for you, it must have a chance if your doctor believes so
