Surely you're meant to feel reassured after visiting the doctor..

Aren't our drs appointments supposed to make us feel a little reassured if nothing else?

Saw a doctor today, again not my own! He decided 5 weeks ago to reduce my drugs and continue with humira, so I go in after doing exactly what he's asked and just outright said im not getting on with it, plainly just don't like it.

Hardly get to say much more, expressed I'm in even more pain, I eat one meal a day no vommiting, he asked again about depression to which I replied, I dont believe I am depressed I think I'm sensitive sometimes I take things personally and I get annoyed when people say things yet have no idea how I feel! He had a little feel of my abdo asked how often I was opening my bowels, told me to decrease my meds even more movicol and senna on prescription and ushered me out with a follow up with the nurse!!

So now I feel completely ignored I didn't even get to describe that the pain feels warm inside or that it's constant, I didn't get to out right say I dont want to take humira any more or get any answers from him as to why I'm booked in urgently for a small barium meal & follow through, what he felt in my abdo etc etc etc and now in just extra sore :( not even any pain relief prescribed, just beginning to think everyone's trying to put my feelings down to depression and if I am somewhat depressed it will be because of the pain! Not the pain caused by depression!! It's so hard when all bloods come back normal yet I know my body better than any tests they can run


Sorry just can't sleep because of the pain and I'm angry at the doctor haha n I just find it odd how I probably wouldn't be annoyed if my doctor had come to the same conclusion I just appreciate his technique more he always reassures me that I know what could be going on and why, but right now I've just been told to decrease tablets that ive been on for years and this worries me as well as having new and more scans would just appreciate knowing what they're looking for. Just war is the point in having a specific doctor if you never get to see them unless you're hospitalised!?

Sorry you had to deal with "Mr. Personality", unfortunately some drs aren't as personable as we need them to be. I'm really surprised you weren't asked to describe the pain though. That's usually a lengthy discussion with my GI, so he understands what is going on.

Haha! I know! I was so moany last night but I felt really bitter towards the hospital in general just wish I could see my normal dr for once, I'm so uncomfortable today that I am tempted to go and see a GP just so someone listens and I can at least ask for some pain relief!

Give in to your temptation and go see your GP. Get it off your chest how badly things went w/this "specialist" and how you feel about discontinuing your familiar drugs and continuing on Humira. Heck, when scheduling the appointment ask the staff to schedule a little extra time as you really need to discuss some problems w/him.

I agree go see your family doc. That is who I get my pain meds from in the first place, the GI would never give me pain meds. And I so agree with C2 let your family doc know about this recent visit and problems you have been having. Good luck and hugs!

Well because it's a four month wait to get into my GI and even a followup I have been relying on my GP. He is much more sensitive and understanding. I'm not sure he's a huge help, but he tries and understands how hard living with this disease is. I agree, go see your GP. After advise on here I asked for a referral to another GI from my GP and am waiting. I am tired of dealing with a GI that doesn't do anything and am going to try someone else. Could you do the same? Thanks guys I really thought I was turning into a whinge bag but it looks like it's a pretty common occurrence, I'm not going to ask for a new GI as im not even seeing my own! Plus I'm moving abroad in 4-6 weeks give or take so just got to grin and bear going back n forth for the time being, I think I'll go see my GP this week and I have a barium meal & follow through on Tuesday so hopefully they'll see something that theyved missed or I don't know just would like a simple answer haha until my appointment though I've found some fairly strong cocodamol fingers crossed.

I'm so pleased I found this forum even when all I do is complain and self pity you all understand haha! :)

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your doctors, but I just wanted to mention to you that I wouldn't recommend a barium meal or small bowel follow through.  They are tests that have a very low sensitivity at detecting Crohn's disease, a lot of times they will give a normal result even if that is not the case.  As someone with Crohns's you are potentially going to have a lot of radiation     exposure throughout your life, so you really want to be trying to keep your radiation exposure to a minimum, particularly considering your age, a test like a small bowel follow through may be a reasonable dose of radiation for no real benefit.  Just food for thought, yu may have a good reason for doing this but just wanted to mention it to you anyway as I am a Radiographer who has CD!  Good luck with everything anyway :-)

Oh dear sounds promising!! I don't even know why they're doing it, when I was at my appt I saw it was booked in as urgent so I don't really want to rock the boat any further when it finally appears they are doing something.. I guess I just won't pin my hopes on finding any answers with that, unless you can suggest something more appropriate?
