Just out of curiosity how many of you have been told you have ulcers through your intestines, or have experienced a duodenal ulcer? or something similar

if so what were your symptoms?/ pains like?

Im curious as to whether having ulcers can make the pain worse at times, say if i were to eat or drink something that may aggravate them, and if these ulcers were aggravated would this cause an increase in your inflammation markers?

I found a letter in my paper work which i had sent to my university from the hospital, stating that i had crohns colitis, id always been aware i had ulcers but never put two and two together until now! haha! and im just curious if the reason i always seem to be having such terrible stomach problems could be in some way related. Could be way off the mark, but cannot help my curiosity! haha.

They found a large bleeding ulcer in my small intestine a few years ago. I didn't have any pain with it....only severe anemia. Do you have a lot of ulcers? Where are they located?

So far I've only had a sigmoidoscopy so they've only seen a small portion of my large bowel, and apparently they're dotted all over where they were looking at least.
Im going for a barium xray to look at my small bowel to see if thats also involved as I've got a lot of unexplained stomach pain and bloating - although I've heard on here they're not all that reliable!

The pill cam test is probably better to see ulcers in your small bowel, but if you have any strictures that may not be a good idea. I hope they figure out what's going on and you feel better soon!

Hi...I was diagosed with crohns 12 years ago and at that time was told I have ulcers where the small and large bowel meet. Occassionally I have had pain in that area on the right side. It is like someone is twisting my intestines really tight. And it throbs...not sure if that is what the pain is coming from but it is in that area. Hope this helps a little. I wonder about that too.

Hi gumby44...what kind of probiotics do you take? Is there a brand you like? Do they make a real difference for you? Thanks...I saw that "Align" at Walmart with a few other kinds. Some of them are expensive. Just wondering what you would recommend...thanks!!

Hiya bruinsfan i also get pain just like that, and i also have ulcers at the join.
Ive also taken all sorts of probiotics this year and not really seen any difference but that could be because i think im still dealing with something, what i dont know! haha.

Lately ive been getting pains on the left hand side just under my ribs and the only way i can describe it would be as what i imagine a psycho baby kicking me inside haha i also get like a warmth in my upper stomach, and all of these are brought on after food, dont seem to have any problems if i go hungry! Ive been trying antacids pain killers hot baths haha but hopefully the barium xrays on tuesday will shed some light, might be way off as ive got no idea whats happening but just thought itd be interesting to see! could just be some sort of acid problem :)

Thanks for your reply. I don't know about those probiotics. Some of them are expensive. That pain you are having under your left side below the rib, that is what I have been experiencing with bloating...it almost feels like something is trying to inflate my ribs. And it seems to be like that more when I eat as well. I have also been getting to where lately I don't even want to eat anything. I am just not hungry and sometimes I think I will throw up even thinking about food. It sucks...really sucks...it is all so uncomfortable. And my stomach just aches at times. Most of the time I just want to crawl back into bed and sleep. That is relatively painless :)

haha! i know exactly how you feel!! bed is much nicer than facing the world. but i feel exactly the same!! I get the bloating and the pain comes n goes whenever it likes but deffo worse after food and can sometimes be on the left or right upper or lower but mainly i experience it in the left. so frustrating! do you take any pain meds? if so what works?! haha
Im so hopeful at finding a reason or a solution for this haha its getting worse each day and im literally holding myself in pain most days now and sometimes i need both hands! haha

The only med I am on is amitriptyline. I take it at night for sleep and pain. I went to the ER for a kidney stone a few weeks ago and they gave me hydrocodone (not sure if I spelled that right)...that helped with all the pain and cramping. I want to ask my dr to give me a prescription for it but I am afraid he would look at me and say the pain is not severe enough. He really has no clue what this is like at times. I have kidey stones in both of my kidneys and they sent me home from the ER with the pain med and said they are small enough to pass. I feel like a ticking time bomb confused

In answer to Bruinsfan's question, I am currently taking a probiotic called flora source. I've tried several brands, including Align. I'm not sure any of them help with the bloating pain. I do think it helps when I'm having D, but I really don't even know if that's true.

I have been dealing with a duodenal ulcer bleed for a very long time. So frustrating, my pain is in the morning, so I eat something and it subsides, but then I will get it during the day too. I am severely anemic, and waiting on the Mayo Clinic to see what they can do. Also, waiting for another endoscope here at home. Very worried, if it is in the third part of the duodenum it is a major surgery called Whipple surgery, if it is in the second part they may do a by pass. good luck, I know how frustrating it is.

Blacky...why can't they control the bleeding? I don't have anything severe like that so I have no idea what you are going through but I am so sorry you have dealt with this for so long!!

Good question. Why can't we control the bleeding. I am obviously not responding to the weekly humira shots, 9 mg of entocort daily, and 40mg of rabeprazole daily. I just don't know what to do, I keep saying, maybe you guys are missing something, but everyone says NO. I just don't get it.

no date so far, I just had one on Sept 28, but it wasting with the side camera scope, and there are conflicting reports. Had a iron infusion on Sept 27 and Oct 7, and I still feel like crap. I don't know how to snap out of the whole depression thing. I keep thinking I am going to die, seriously. I am so scared for my kids.

Novice,
One of my symptoms was severe stomach pain after eating and in the middle of the night. Before my diagnosis I assumed it was from ulcers. I found that chewing (not swallowing) DGL licorice 20-30 minutes before eating and before going to bed at night to be very effective for relieving the stomach pain.

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I cannot say I know how you feel because I don't have a clue. I wish there was something I could do for you. What is an iron infusion? Do you have to do that for the anemia?

Keep talking to people here on the forum. I know it doesn't help you physically but I hope it will help you with your depression. Do you have support of your family? I mean like your parents or siblings or your spouse? I am here for you if you need to talk or whatever. Thanks Bruinsfan, I do need someone to talk to. I will take you up on your offer, I need to vent and I seem to be venting to everyone, but it isn't helping. I cry everytime I talk about it. I am just so tired, and I am such a busy person, and I can't stop not being busy, my husband and I run our own company, I have 3 very active daughters. One who is going to Germany the end of November ( I am going to, God willing ) to perform at the World Tap Competition. Life is crazy! I love that, and I thrive on being busy, however, lately this is so exhausting.

I go for an B12 shot today and get the final bit of papers to send to the Mayo Clinic, hoping they have some new miracle fix for me. LOL YA RIGHT!!!

So I am in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, our Jets are not doing good at all!!!!!! ( I see you are a hockey fan ) LOL

Yep, I am a Bruins fan :) Hopefully once your Jets get settled in the team will do better!! Can you see my email in my profile? I know you say you are busy, especially with the kids, but there is a show on Animal Planet tonight called "Puppies vs Babies". It is at 7pm centeral time zone in the US...not sure if you have a different time zone up there. It is the cutest funniest show. I saw it for the first time last night. It will definately make you smile smilewinkgrin so if you have a minute :) I am not sure how your programmig runs the same as ours or the time but I just wanted to let you know! Lots of hugs to you :)

A little late to the convo, but. I was dx with a duodenal ulcer in the 5th grade. Now that I look back I've had CD symptoms all my life. I've never been told I have any ulcers as an adult though. Unless you count the buggers that take up residence in my mouth.

One of your hometown boys will be playing back there tonight with the Pens! Aarron Asham hasn't played in Winnipeg since he started his NHL career.
