I had a small bowel resection in early June. They removed my ileocecal valve and about 24" of my jejunum.
I had read here that many get "explosive D" after having their ileocecal valve removed. So it surprised me when my D was short-lived. After a month of urgent, loose stools, I've had C for the next 3 months. The surgeon told me back in early July that bowel motility is affected by surgery, and it can take 3-6 months for the muscle lining around the intestines to work together again in a new unison.
They had me take miralax once a day (I take it at night with 8 oz of apple juice.) My question for my healingwell brothers and sisters - will I know when everything is working again??
...i.e. stools will become looser and I will know when I need to back off the miralax ?
Or does the body become dependent on a gentle laxative, and I won't know unless I wean off the miralax?
