I just spent a week on a house boat out in the marsh . Made some good memories to help me through the bad times . Sun up and sun set on the bay and running through the marsh in a mud boat at night . I haven't been able to do these things for years . The weather was great. The flora and fauna everywhere . Sights, sounds ,smells and memories of my younger days . Best of all , a bathroom when needed and a bed to rest in . There are so many things that I can no longer do . This disease has taken so much away , so it was great to relive a small part of my younger days . What made me think the most though was the change in the coast . Hurricanes and the erosion of time have devastated the marsh and bays that I knew , just as crohns has devastated my body . Guess we are both on the way out , but what will be will be and I intend to enjoy all that I can until that time .

Glad you had such a great trip. Sometimes it does a body good to get out and about and enjoy life when you can. Hugs!

Ah, Sniper. It sounds like a week of heaven! I am so glad that you got to enjoy it - and the memories!

Its not just the marsh and the bays. All around us in our township I watch the dang contractors buying up beautiful farm land, wonderful vacant pasture land and beautiful forested areas, lovely old trees being destroyed, up rooted, dug up for the sand leaving weed ponds .... They pay top dollor for the land and make so much selling the black dirt and sand they then just "dump" the land at auction for any amount of money offered (they made their money on the dirt and sand).

The developers buy it up cheap, chop down any remaining trees, erect today's ugly, pretentious McMansions and then plant small little trees and saplings that won't be able to provide any decent shade for 30-40 years if ever.

The house buyers drive up our taxes wanting city water, paved road, sewers, and natural gas, etc., etc. and then are the first to cry and piddle and moan about the taxes and move on. Or a few hang around and screw up our school district.

I am soooo glad to hear about your week in the houseboat, Sniper.  You and I are in the same age group- 60's - and I find myself thinking the same way as you.  When I hear that there is going to be the best meteor shower for the next 10 years, I am out at night looking at it.  When Saturn was the closest it will be this summer, I was out looking at it.  When twin lobster specials were $9.99, I was there ordering it.  As often as I can, I will now drop everything to make sure that if there is something I may not get to see or do again, that I do it.  It's our "bucket list" mentality" kicking in.  Let's hope we have quite a few houseboat-weeks left in us as no one appreciates them more than we do.

OK Sniper and OTD, I am "only" in my 40's but I have had that mentality for a good 10 years. I stopped letting Crohn's run my life and if I can find a way to enjoy something, I will! So maybe it is the attitude of age mixed with an illness, we have learned to appreciate all of life's treasures, the big and small.

I am so glad you got a chance to enjoy some time together in a place you love.

You know I'm reading these posts and envying you all. Where are you getting 'your get up and go' attitude
from. Right now I'm finding it difficult to put one foot in front of the other, let alone finding joy in it. I'm so
weepy, tired and ready to meet my maker sometimes. I don't know if it's being 60 and sick, or just sick.
All I know life sucks right now.

Sorry to rain on your parade you wonderful people, but I felt a little sorry for myself. Is that allowed 'pretty please'

Sniper your journey sounds terrific. :-) I´m glad for you,

Vicky I wish I could give you a big hug and say everything will be ok I would have to have a crystall ball to do that and I haven´t. But I know how you feel been there. All I know is that if you keep on putting one foot in front of the other life usually somehow roles on. And maby tomorrow becomes a better day or the day after that. a day in spring when you first hear the birds singing knowing that now soon the flowers starts growing again.Or a day at the beach seing the ocenwaves rolling in on the beach hearing the waves or the sound of a fishingboat passing by. Or the sight of snow on a sunny day glittering in front of you hearing the sound crunshing underneath your feets. If nothing or no one else can keep you up, belive me you are a big help here, sharing and keeping company when we needs, helping us. So I wish now that I in anyway could help you.

Sniper OTD Zanne. I think it´s age and for us in our 40´s age and disease. I belive when your in your 40´s and not sick you haven´t got the time to reflect as much as we do. I also wonder where we are hedding. But I refuse to surrender to it insted I try to do what I can to slow down the pollution. Hoping wishing praying.

This disease brings constant insecurity. We may be in remission for a time, but it always comes back to revisit us. One day we're fine, and the next day - boom- we're miserable or in a crisis. And because there is no cure yet, we have no end in sight. So, we take diversions or side trips from the disease. When we're having those good moments, we exploit them, soak them up, create them so when we're having a really bad time (as I did two days ago), we rely on the memories of the good days to get us through. We have to make those happen because the bad days will happen without us having to do anything about it. They just are. So our energy has to go into making the good days or we wouldn't have as many.

Sniper, take advantage more often. You and your wife can have more wonderful memories. My husband passed away, it will be 2 years ago Nov. 15. The good times are harder to come by, but I keep working on them.

Vicky, I believe your husband is still with you. Create some memories with him - just little things- and they will get you through. Hold hands.

C2, I know what your talking about . The wild places are disappearing and the loss hurts us all . Even those that don't know it yet .
OTD , I feel sorry for people that never leave the city . They have never seen a night sky uncluttered by man made light . They have no idea just how many stars there are .
Vicky , you ask how I get my get up and go . I push the envelope . Not every day , but most of them . I refuse to roll up in a ball and succumb . No , its not easy or painless but as this too shall pass says, put one foot in front of the other and off you go . I wish I could show you what I see and what I love . Sense I cant , I describe it as best as I can , but you don't need my experiences , you have to make your own . That doesn't mean you have to drive a boat through winding twisting marsh canals by moonlight . You just have to live the best way you know how . As Funguy said, you bring so much joy here , I pray you have joy yourself . We are all in this boat together so, we can take turns bailing , right ? Hugs to you all . Thanks for listening to me ramble .

you still got skeeters this time of year down there? i could handle everything else but that.. the cold up here already has them on the run for the rest of the year til next spring, but i would think down your way you may have them all year? glad ya had agood time.. with friends or just you and the wifey?

I went with friends Randy . My wife needs a break from me now and then . The skeeters were down due to a cold snap here but we have a device that keeps them at bay even when they are bad. We have two sizes of skeeters here too . The small ones that come through the screen wire and the big ones that just open the door . I was able to take a deer so we will have food for the winter . I just could not walk the marsh though . Too decrepit . Thanks to my friends for helping out or I could not have done this . I feel bad losing my independence but I'm glad to have good friends .

Oh come now Vicky , they don't suck as much blood as you give on any doctor visit , plus you have the satisfaction of swatting them . Nothing like a good splat of a full skeeter to make you feel good . I'll take skeeters over gnats any day . Worse yet we have areas with what we call , No See Ems . Little biting flies so small you can only feel the bite after its over and done and the itch sets in . None of these are as bad as some areas of Alaska with their biting black fly swarms . But as I said , it was cold and we didn't have any bugs bugging us .

Sometimes i think things like Crohn's are sent to test us??? there are times (like when i read the really bad cases here) that i am truly thankful that i'm not doing too bad.....other times i feel my worst Crohn's sympton is in my head..let me explain.....Most days i feel tired..no "get up and go" no energy to do all i used to do....in reading all the above i get a clear picture of why this site/forum is so good/revelant for crohn's sufferers....it's the camararderie(spelling) ..the sharing of the good and the bad ....i always come away from this site with something...whether it's a diet tip/useful info or just the feeling that i'm not alone in this....i have a wonderful support system in my husband/family but coming here reading/sharing with you all is somedays my sanity...keeps me grounded if you know what i mean....I can't give you any wonderful scenery imagary here (it's Ireland..it's raining LOL) but i can share with you a lovely family get together?party we had on Saturday for my son's 21st birthday...i sat back at one point just looking at everyone enjoying themselves and being happy and thought to myself "life goes on" and that's i guess how it should be...blessings to you all..

Conmire , life is full of small wonders . We have to look real close at times to see them . My mother had a saying , " I use to cry because I had no shoes , then I met a man that had no feet ." She was Irish by the way . I would love to see Ireland . I know I never will , but somehow I feel part of me is there. People can be connected in many ways , even by illness in our case . Keep up the love and laughter .

Sniper...Being Irish is not so much where you're from but more where you belong..we are a small island of 4/5 million people and from here we have reached the world, there are 350million of Irish descent worldwide.Being Irish can be a state of mind....i don't know you from Adam but i can already tell from your sense of humour that Ireland is there somewhere....long may you laugh and give laughter...
