New Member!

Hello everyone!

My name is Beverly, I am 40 years old and have had Crohn's for 20 years. I was just googling other info about meds and came across this site. I liked it so joined. LOL. I am post rectal removal surgery. I saw everyone calling it a stump, but not sure if that is what mine was. I got my ileostomy in 1997. My rectum ruptured and they left it in there to heal on it's own. They told me at that time that I would never go without the ostomy. So, the rectum started causing me problems last year and my doctor decided to wait as long as possible before taking it out. When the surgery was over, I was in the hospital about a week. They sent me home and I got an infection in the wound on my rear. I had to go back and have it opened and it has been since August 15th and I am still healing. The nurses from the home health talked my doctor into letting them use some packing that has silver in it and the change was AMAZING!! It is almost healed now and we are all pleasantly shocked! I haven't been on the pain meds for about 1 1/2 months. It isn't painful anymore but it is uncomfortable when sitting. I will be glad when I am fully healed and am done with the dressing changes!

Well, I guess I gave enough info about myself (probably too much, I tend to get carried away) LOL.

Yeah I had all of my colon and part of my small intestine removed in my first surgery. That was in 1995. Then in 97 my rectum ruptured and I had to have the ostomy. Then in about 2001 I had to have my ostomy moved due to a peristomal hernia. Then this past August I had the rectum removed. It has been a tough battle and I am getting sick all over again because I couldn't take the Humira while I was healing from the surgery. Doctor called me today and said that since I was almost healed that I need to start back up on the Humira. I hope it works fast. I hate the nausea and vomiting.

I have enjoyed it so far. I feel not so alone now. I am the only one in my family that has Crohn's everyone else has Diverticulitis.

Thanks for sharing it. I have actually tried Demorol for the Crohn's pain but it didn't help. I used to be on Methadone when the avascular neucrosis was in my hips. Since then my tolerance for pain meds is pretty high. I also have a high tolerance for pain. i have to otherwise I would have gone crazy from the pain these last 20 years. I am back on my Humira for the first time since my surgery on August 15th and I took the first shot on Friday. I think the pain is easing up a bit now it isn't constant anymore at least. That is a good thing. i don't want to have to go on another medication. I really hate taking pills. LOL
