How long does chrons diagnosis take?

Hey guys i am new here! I did a colosopy, endoscopy with biopsy and mri's because the doctors thought i might have chrons. I've had recuring anal abcesses the last 3 months and finally the infection went away after multiple drainings and antibiotics on and off for a total of 40 days. The only symptom of chrons i had before these abcesses 3 months ago were diarhea at every bowel movement. No blood i think but some reddish brown tye of liquids once in a while i've spotted. Is that blood?

I'm just wndering because the gastro doctor says its not chrons or an ulcer but the inflammation of where it drained is not going down much. Could the gastro doctor be wrong? How long did it take for you guys to finally be diagnosed?

I am on same boat as you are, with little less symptons than you. Officialy have an inflammation in terminal ileum, pretty severe weight loose in one year, some light fever from time to time, some loose stool. Have been to bunch of docs, done bunch of tests, even MRI and capsule endoscopy.

You seem to have more severe symptoms. Other more knowleadge members will ask your questions. Mybe you should think to get another opinion? I ve been to several docs, all gastro specialists. All said no Chron's.

Do you have any other medicines than antibiotics? Some steroids, or sulfa drugs?

As far as i have knowleadge about Chron's - it is sneaky diseasse with a lot of symptoms that can not be put together first. So I hope you do not have this DD. That WE do not have this DD. But it is good idea to keep on going and get other opinion from gastro or other professionals.

Wish both of us best results and soon diagonose of whatever we have!

I was diagnosed in only 3 weeks.  I think I am in the minority here in getting diagnosed so quickly.  But my Crohns is/was located in the most common area where scopes can reach. (I say was becuz I have had a resection that removed my TI/Cecum).

But as Dawg mentioned there is the pill cam test you can do also.  Most when having trouble getting diagnosed get this test, and thats where most have the most success.

I would talk to your doctor about the pill cam.

It took my first GI about a year to diagnose me with proctitis, but that's only because it took him a year to scope me, and then he only looked in the sigmoid colon. Another 2 years went by before I had a full colonoscopy (I got pregnant and had a baby in between scopes) and my 2nd GI got me to a Crohn's diagnosis. So it took a good while.

My symptoms from the beginning were bloody diarrhea and lots of mucous. But I didn't have the catastrophic weight loss that many folks have so I think my GIs did not take the whole thing that seriously.

I was dx about 2-3 after being hospitalized for unknown weightloss, D, etc. The diagnosis didn't come until after the surgery to remove the terminal ileum and a small section of bowel. So I guess that is pretty quick unless you consider I was 21 at the time and had suffered with GI issues most of my life.
I also had my dx taken away at one point by a GI who obviously didn't know about remission! This all started in 1982 and I realize now how little was known at that point in time but it was a dumb move on that dr.'s part. My "re"diagnosis was fairly quick once I started to flare again the first scope confirmed inflamation.

IBS Severe at 16, then IBD unspecified at 33, then CD..My doctor did not want to hand down the diagnosis till he was sure..IBD unspecified was on the charts for a year before CD..I had to go through the testing more than once in a six month period of time to "make sure". I did not feel well during that time so I was very frustrated. I felt like I was constantly getting my blood drawn, CTs, and stool cultures done..?? I was worried that I going crazy, and I did not want others to view me a crazy hypochondriac! Unless you have gone through something like that, others and many medical providers I feel are not understanding..I wanted to know what was wrong and how to fix it to "deal" with it..

I was diagnosed in about 4 hours!  But you don't want that....my intestines ruptured on a Thursday and I went to the ER on Saturday.  Within 4 hours they were resecting me and surgeon recognized CD.  Granted, I had symptoms from when I was a small child....but never knew I was different until surgery.

Most folks take time to get diagnosed with pitfalls along the way.  It often takes time and a lot of patience to find a doc who really looks and understands.  Keep educating yourself and keep having open questions and dialogs with docs.  Hope you have a clear path to follow soon!

thanks a lot everyone

the only symptoms i had before these 3 months of abscesses are loose stools and cramps, that would come after eating msot of the time and go away after i went to the bathroom.

Never any  nausea, fever, vomiting, joint pain or anything like that.

The coloscopy, endoscopy wth biopsy, ct scan and a bunch of blood tests and they say its not chrons.

The antibiotics they gave was to treat the abscesses flagyl, cipro and the one that helped last time was amoxi-clav.

They refered me to a colon rectal specialist who will do a long surgery to see what's going on.

What else could cause anal abscesses?
