Hello,  I have not been on this site for a long time. I have been coasting along with my crohns condition as I know many of you are.   My doctor has suggested to add Methotrexate as treatment along with humira once a week.  Is there someone out there who is or has been on these two drugs together.  I am very nervous.  Thank you.

I take Methotrexate and Cimzia. Although my Dr just stopped the Cimzia because it just ain't workin. But kept me on Methotrexate. Adding Metho to a TNF blocker seems to be the fad now among Doctors. I take an injection (that's what you want, not pills for their tough on your gut) 25 mg injection once a week and I pick Fridays because some weekends for me the Metho. leaves me a little nausea for a day or two. Zofran works great for that. I'm sure your Doctor will do this, but it's recommended that you take 1 mg of prescription Folic Acid a day to help curve any side effects from Metho. The shots are easy, I give them to myself in the belly and does not hurt. Try not to be afraid of it. I understand it's been around a long time and many people take it for RA and other diseases. It has help me, not 100 percent but some and I'll take any relief I can get. Good luck with you decision and your road to feeling better.

Yes, my GI said the methotrexate would be in injection form and would use it for 3 months to see if it helps me.  If not, then he suggested Remicade.   The only issue with me is I am 99 lbs and I do not have enough fatty flesh  on my belly to do an injection or pen form. I can only do the injections in my thighs.  As it is now, I am developing lumps in my thighs after a year of using the pen needle of humira once a week in  alternating thighs.  If I go that route,  I will have to have a nurse do the methotrexate injection  until I become  comfortable of where to inject it myself.   Did you have other side effects besides nausea from the methotrexate?

I was taking remicade and metho injections. been for 3 months. had to stop due to a gout flare which we knew was a possibility as I have gout but was worth a chance to see if it helped. Honestley, i dont think it helped me as my BM were the same and I was till lossing weight. so we were going to stop it anyways in a few weeks.

I hope they are able to find something that works for you.  I feel we are ginny-pigs with all this medication, but hopefully something soon will work.
