Hey you guys =) I'm a new member to the forums here and thought i'd do a quick introduction =)
Sooo I'm Nikki and I've had Crohn's disease for almost 11 years. I was diagnosed when I was in the 5th grade and 11 years old.
The first 5 years after I found out I had IBD were the hardest. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, but mostly in. Talking about having to remove portions of my intestines were discussed but thankfully Remicade saved them! Remicade was my choice of medication for 5 years. about 3 weeks after I had my infusion I felt great, but then I'd be pretty sick for about 2 weeks until my next infusion. Just when it seemed like they finally got my dose and frequency of the Remcaide I had a really bad reaction to it and had to stop. I haven't had too many symptoms ever since I started college and, to my information, I've been in remission for about 3 years - just some IBS symptoms here and there.
I've been on about every medication you can think of that i'm able to tolerate and unfortunately I've reacted to nearly all of them. I am fortunate and have not had surgery -knock on wood-. The majority of my crohn's is in my colon and rectum, though I've had cases of it being around my ileum.
I've been through a heck of a lot more - but I'll leave it at that for now and share other parts when topics come up! I think that is the jist of everything =)
Hope I can take information away from the boards and give knowledge, advice, and tips to others!
