What I mean is what exactly defines Crohns?

Inflamation? There are many things that can cause inflamation. Infection, other types of IBD. Is it a type of Inflamation?

Biopsy? What exactly does a biopsy show that makes a DR say it's Crohns?

Symptoms?

Doctors opinion?

Blood tests? markers?

Is there any test or sign or symptom that confirms Crohns? Or is it just a collection of things that are mentioned above?

I would love to hear if there is something that defintely would rule or rule out Crohns disease.

It's not simply inflamation, it's a chronic inflamation, when you have an effection, you inflame than go back to normal. Our body react like there was always an intruder for a unknown, yet, reason.
The biopsy are a good way make a difference betweet UC and CD but it's not only that, my biopsy were fine at my scope. (they search for granluloma I think)
I did not have blood test for crohn's. (But I saw my familliale doctor short after and because she though I might also had a thyroid disorder, she ordered one for me)
To my doc my past year and the scope were enough to make a DX. Abscess, fistula, appetite loss, weight loss, false urges.

Sometime I wish I was misDX and that it was something else who was causing all this plus my nerves (minus the abscess that can happen for absolutly no reason like anal glande infection).
But my intern is doing a good job, he take good care of me even if I'm a mild case, so, I'll trust him.

I'm not sure they`re is ONE simple test that can valid if you have it or not. Most of GI thinks the best is scopes and biopsies.

Tommy's got it. Chronic inflammation confirmed by scope. Biopsies can differentiate the type of inflammation. You can have inflammation only in the surface layers of the bowel (diagnosed as ulcerative colitis) or you can have inflammation deep into the mucosal layers of the bowel (diagnosed as Crohn's). My dad, for example, had diarrhea for two years, but on scope the only thing the DR found was eosinophils, and lots of them. Since my dad's diarrhea started with a viral illness the DR concluded no inflammatory bowel disease, just a very long duration response to a viral insult.

livingwell, those medical questions (what exactly a biopsy shows, what rules CD in or out, etc) should be answered by your GI. We're not doctors here.

But everyone is going to have their own opinions. As Roni stated we are not doctors here, we are just patients having to live with this darn disease.

As I said above I was diagnosed by biopsies after multiple tests were done. I couldn't tell you what my biopsy report said, because that was 36 yrs ago and I was a kid then and was just happy to know what it was that was making me so sick. It was then that I was diagnosed with Ileocolitis Crohns. My disease was in the most common area the TI/Cecum area. I have had biopsies done after my resections that showed Crohns disease in the scar tissue removed too and I have experienced inflammation too.

PB4 - the following is from the web page your referenced. Is this your understanding? I thought that my kids had only a very small increase in their chance to have Crohn's.
