NEED ADVICE. rectal pain/pressure or tailbone pain??

I was diagnosed with indeterminate colitis 4 years ago due to the fact I have always had inflammation in my terminal ileum and also my rectum.

I have been doing ok since I have upped my dose of Humira to weekly injections. I was also on MTX for joint pain and to help with the bowels and it worked wonders except I developed severe mouth sores on it so was taken off for 2 weeks and we bumped folic acid up to 4 mg/day and then we are going to try it again.

The past 3 days I have had horrible pain in the butt area. Its hard to say whether its the tailbone or the rectal area. I have not fallen recently so no injury to the tailbone. When i go from sitting to standing its severe pain and when I sit back down same thing. Also it feels like my rectum has pressure on it. I work at an office and today was ridiculous to get through. I do not have any fissures or external hemmroids.

Has anyone else had this and if so is there any reason to be seen for it? What was causing this problem for you?

Any advice would be great. Thanks so much!

Do you get any bleeding? It's probably a good idea to get an anoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy to rule out any growths being the cause of the problem. In the meantime a donut cushion should help somewhat.
If there is nothing found causing the problem then physiotherapy may help.

I get this from time to time. Isn't it hard to describe! My best recommendation is very warm sitz bathes.....this tends to relax things for me. I also have a desk job...I try to work standing up or at least get up every hour just to take some pressure off.

Do you have pressure over the rectum all the time? Do you feel that the rectum is swollen from outside? Is there tenesmus (urgency to have a bowel movement without sometimes passing anything"? I do have all these symptoms as I do suffer from proctitis (inflammation of the rectum). It's the only naked eye and biopsy confirmed diagnosis, Crohn 's is based on biopsies only. Why don't you see a surgeon? It was the surgeon, who discovered that I have proctitis long before I had a sigmoidoscopy. He did a proctoscope ( an examination with a scope that is very well tolerated (better than rectal digital examination) and you won't feel any discomfort. In this I second Ambling and HabsHockeyFan, warm sitz baths and hot cushions can help.

I too have proctitis. I do have tenesmus but not as bad as I was a while ago. I always bleed with all BM no matter what meds I am on.

I have had 4 colonoscopies and 2 Flex sigs in the past 4 years since diagnosis so i have had more than enough scopes to last me a lifetime.

I will try the sitzbaths and call my GI later this week. Even though I have this DD I still put off being seen because I know they will do a rectal exam and who wants that LOL

Guys, when you're suffering with proctitis (inflammation of the rectum) you need rectal meds to treat it. When it happens to me I find cortifoam works best for my proctitis over all the other rectal meds, of course everyone responds differently to different meds.
