Wow, that's interesting! I think they calculate my beneift in a different way than that. I have been earning less than 70% of my gross income on Manulife , but since it was non taxable, it ended up being close to what I was getting paid by my employer.
I found an agreement between my union and Manulife and it looks like they claw back all disability benefit minus 10% (to account for the tax implication of the CPP Disability being taxable).. But since they don't include the child's benefit in your 70% , that sounds very promising
Since dh was laid off, I'd had to suspend our automatic pymts to the kids' RESP's and now I will be able to start contributing again.
Another question for anyone who feels comfortable answering :)
After you are approved for CPP disability with your CD, how often are the reviews / information updates by CPP or are you just on it until..? It sounds like even though they reserve the right to ask for more info/updates, that it's far less frequent than with private insurance..and was CD and complications from CD the only cause of your disability?
Last time Manulife, after the 2 yrs (when the definition of disability changes to unable to perform ANY job) they came right out and said no one is ever apporved for that unless they're terminal?! But now I'm meeting that same definition with CPPD so I'm wondering/hoping that gets my foot in the door for Manulife to possibly agree with them
