Have you gotten hives from Imuran or Humira?

So I have hives. They're really itchy and uncomfortable. My GI sent me to a dermatologist so he can tell him what it is and he tells me I have hives. The derm. then prescribes me Allegra once a day for a month and Triamcnolone cream.He said that if in a month I still get them to go see him again to take a more extensive look.  But there's still a problem, I don't know what's causing them.  I'm not allergic to any food nor have I tried any new soaps or detergent. I don't know if it's due to imuran or humira or if it's due to medication at all. I felt very rushed and the secretary of my GI asked me if he said it was due to Imuran or Humira and I told her that he didn't tell me. I told him I have a sore throat and he told me to check to see if it's strep throat because that could be causing the hives. I doubt I have strep throat because it really does not hurt that much and he didn't look at it at all. I don't know I just feel like there were many unanswered questions and just more medicine I have to take.     

Have you ever gotten hives due to Imuran or Humira? Because I'm scared the hives are due to my medicine.

I always get hives from my Humira, Lovely.

I have to premedicate with benadryl and prednisone just to be able to take it.

BUT Humira has been the only medication that has worked for me.

Also you may want to see if you are allergic to Latex. I am allergic to Latex and some of the syringes have latex in them.

I do the pen. =)

Are your hives around the injection site?

sorry your having hives but I hope they figure out why soon!

I don't get the hives around the injection site. I get them on my legs, lower back and the palm of my hands. I also use the pen. If it is the medicine, I am leaning towards it being the imuran because I have been taking Humira now for a little more than a year.

I have been on Humira for 5 months without any reactions until the 2 last injections. I now have hives and have had them for a month. Does anyone know know how long they might last? My Rheumy said to stop my injections until the hives go away. I have Anklyosing Spondalitis.

Hi, Stclff. I started taking Allegra every day and I haven't been getting them. My dermatologist told me to take them every day for a month and if in a month I am still getting them to go back to get a further look.but I haven't been getting them with the Allegra so far.

I'm on 6mp which is similar to Imuran. I never got hives until I started the 6mp. Mine are really random but I usually get them on my torso, arms and legs. I have Uc not CD, but my GI said that having an IBD can cause you to get hives. I find that odd because I've had Uc for 19 years and I never got hives until I started on 6mp.

I didn't get hives, but I did get a very hot inflamed rash on both my arms from imuran and 6mp - my GI made me stop taking both - my CRP shot through the roof a couple days after taking both drugs my whole body was inflamed and unhappy!
Would be interesting to see what your bloodwork is doing since starting 6mp?

My daughter took Humira successfully for a short time, had surgery, and then when she restarted Humira she broke out in hives badly. The hospital and doctor told her to never take it again and the hives left scars on her arms that lasted for about 2 months. I would guess that the severity of the allergic reaction would suggest whether it can be managed with Benadryl or some other treatment, if that is what is causing your hives.

I never get hives.. from that but i got hives from asacol when I was pregnant with my first. when i was 32 weeks with my first. no clue why... that causing it.. but i have taken asacol for almost 2 years and no problem til 2008.

I have been taking humira for 2 years and started getting hives at random times after about a year. I ususally get a red, hot rash around the injection site for 1-2 days. But randomly I will get hives. Not every time, but they come and go. If I leave them alone, they seem to go away in about a hour or so.

I have had psoriasis since childhood so naturally in my late twenties and now in my mid thirties RA has been an increasing issue. Rheumitologist prescibed me humira injection pen and first 5 mths were great! psoriasis completely cleared for first time in my life! lost job and health insurance and abbot was nice enough to continue giving me the humira for free. i missed a shot, (on it every other week) and an itch started to persist all over my body, after missing one shot i restarted them after a 4 week period without it and itch has gotten progressively worse! i have hives now plus bumps and scaly patches on digits of hands in between fingers. bumps on arms legs torso, they are maddening at best. goin to see dermitologist and rheumitologist this week. i also had a bad urinary tract infection that caused prostatitis, i am pretty sure all of this is from the humira since i wasnt on anything else, and my immune system going haywire after missing a shot. it has been about 6 to seven weeks since rash/hives started and am pissed the rheumitologist didnt pick up on this with our last meeting, since i was complaining about it. she just put me on prednisone which didnt help itching at all. humira helped tremendously with psoriasis but no results on arthritis. i think i'm done with humira at this point.https://www.healingwell.com/community/posticons/icon8.gif

Interesting that so many have had hives with these meds but continued to take them. My daughter's (pediatric) GI told us to get of azathioprine after she got hives all over her torso and arms and numerous mouth ulcers from a single small dose. She wasn't allowed to take the med and we were told it could cause a severe reaction or that her body wouldn't process it (though she can according to her tpmt score)? Anyone taken off of a med after hives? If you continued to take it, did you have any further, more serious problems and did the med work for you?

 How long does it take the doctor to diagnoise you, I am currently on lomotil and questran powder, it works but, how do you know you have chrones diease or not I had blood work done, and a cat-scan of my abdomine and pelvis, I go tomarrow to find out results. What is resectioning? Do they take part of your intestines? Hopefully someone helps me soon any answers? What to do next?????
