Fistula and mucous

I am in the midst of a bad flare, actually since august when I weened of all steroids, cort etc and started Remicade. Went back on pred twice throughout the four infusions and decided it is not working. Stopped 6 mp too a few weeks ago that I was on since Jan. Anyway, since Jan, when I am on a low dose of pred and have blood, I get a mucous stream, that does not break, it is really clear looking. I get mucous balls but this stream thing is new. Could it be a fistula. Anus area feels weird in one side. Thanks for any help. I have a sigmoid fri but am impatient. I am really thinking of surgery and the sig is to make sure for that reason. Although just started vsl and might be noticing a difference.

I am kinda confused about the mucous stream. Are you saying like a long string of mucous? If so I believe it is normal..there is always a lot of mucous unfortunately.. And of course if you are concerned about a fistula, get tested! Take it from someone that knows..good luck, Leslie

Yes, sorry, a stream of mucous. I just thought it was weird because it is so clear and doesn't break, like a string. So you think normal for mucous in general? Thanks

I have mucous too. I have a fistula and just to give you a heads up, if you are in a flare, your sigmoidoscopy is going to be very painful. My dr. won't do one usless I am under because of my rectal disease/issues.

allswell, I think it's just mucous and no fistula, but I commented on your post about this at the UC forum for you as well.

I have know about my fistula for years and other doctors ignored what I was saying.  One said it was anticipation of a BM.  I did finally after 30 years have a dr who listened and she repaired my fistual. I have some mucous. I am on Apriso and imodium for only immediate graditification.  Lialda is great, but the patent won't expire for a few more years, to make it more affordable.

I ate my first Thanksgiving dinner with my family w/o incident and held it the entire night( I usually have to leave the table because the food would go right thru me.  Meaning I would have to eat 2 small meals to get it in.

Allswell,  I meant to mention to you and others that I had a Perirectal Abcess and my sphinctre muscle was cut and could not be repaired correctly/  However I had the leaks.  You wear underwear until the flare subsides. 

Be patient.  I will happened.
