Sulfsalazine and joint pain

For those of you who are on Sulfasalzine for joint pain, how long did it take to kick in, and also, was your joint pain severe? I know that's a subjective question, but I have terrible joint pain and a severe case of Crohn's, so I wonder if it will be helpful for me. I tried it originally when I was diagnosed but I wasn't on it that long, because I got so much worse and had to start other meds. Just wondering what your experiences were.

I would say that my joint pain was severe enough that I couldn't use my hands. It took a while for my GI to get interested in treating this - my rheumatologist cleared me of every other cause of joint pain and told my GI it was up to him. My GI finally got focused on the problem when I showed up in his office one day with a raised red welt on my wrist. It had just appeared that day, grew to the diameter of a nickel and then disappeared the next day. That's how my hands typically reacted. Joint pain would just flare up, stick around and make me miserable for a day or two and then disappear.

My knee and SI pain is/was more chronic and doesn't appear to be linked as directly to my bowel issues.

It took about two weeks to help my joint pain. Unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction and had to stop taking it.
