According to our news, a lot of people there have lost power. Imagine that, just as you're trying to prepare for Christmas and keep food cool and fresh.

Poor Kiwi & other Christchurch people - their nerves must be shattered after so many quakes.

Thank you so much Gail and Ivy for your kind concern and good wishes. I do hope you both had a relaxing christmas day!

We were very lucky as we only lost the power for half a day on friday so no food lost and the turkey got cooked without any drama.  We also had no flooding and only broken china/glass/garden pots which is nothing in the scheme of things.

The big shame is the ongoing quakes are very unnerving and it is all proving too much for my elderly mum so I am taking her home early tomorrow.  The weather has been lovely but she is too scared of having a fall during a shake to go out of the house and the ones at night mean she is not sleeping either.

Luckily for me I got my entocort repeat a few days ago so it has kept me from a stress flare. Beginning to feel more than a bit OVER IT - but then these earth quakes have been going on pretty much constantly for 18 months now so it is no wonder.

I am taking Mum home tomorrow now and then we have decided to head down to Queenstown for a few days to get away YAY

how was you menu on Christmas day? I thought about you as I sipped my strawberry daiquiri. Apparently I was so confused I drank my son's one as well!

It was quite funny to see the first thing everyone did with each shake was grab their drink ha ha sad family indeed :P

highly recommend it Gail, I just blitz fresh or frozen strawbs with a little sugar syup and barcardi in a food blender then serve in a martini glass - ahhhhh ;P

Bless you Ivy - going friday for 4 nights and taking our daughter and son in law with us as they lost their house this year so even before this last round we felt they deserved a break (other that crockery, china etc ha ha - too much of that sort of breaking this year) .

We are driving down and flying back as the road trip both ways is a bit much for me - the kids will bring the car back for us YAY just hope the weather stays nice.

How are you going now? Think the FODMAP is helping at all? I feel you should be beginning to feel some benefit now so have my fingers crossed you do.

I am so very pleased it is helping those annoying side issues and yes if only if would do the fatigue as well we would all be celebrating big time haha

Still maybe eventually reduced bms and better diet will mean more energy - well we can hope ;)

Qt about a six hour drive for us but with plently of toilet stops possibly a little longer. It is a very pretty drive so I love doing it but it just makes me tired hence the one way drive/fly deal with daughter.

Qt still has the camping ground and it is a lot more built up than in the 80's but it still has a lovely happy, safe holiday vibe that I really enjoy. Heaps to do with a FODMAP friendly vineyard lunch planned for New Years Eve then they have a free concert and fireworks by the lake at midnight which are awesome.

Daughter is renting while we wait for the ground to stop shaking then they hope to be able to rebuild but at the moment no building consents are being issued and it is impossible to get insurance and banks won't lend without it - real limbo for many. We are luckier than most!

I hope you have a nice new year and have the energy to get some fun in with friends and lets hope 2012 is kinder to us all
