Like I said earlier I am pregnant, well we just found out on Friday that its fraternal twins :)

I know its a long way to go but I am so worried about the breastfeeding part.
I desperately want to breastfeed I am afraid I want have the energy to bottle feed to babies.

I see on the Humira homepage that you should not breastfeed on Humira and both my GI and OB feel very strongly about me not breastfeeding on Humira.

Is there any other drug that is safe that I can use ?

I am allergic to Remicade and Imuran makes me violently ill.
Also Stef17 you said that you had breastfeed on Humira did your baby need any special monitoring during that time.
I am a little bit lost.

And last question how do you know what is Crohn's and what is the pregnancy when it comes to tummy issues ?
I have been having bad gas pains and my digestive system is the slowest it has ever been.

Wow! Twins! Congratulations!!! Ok -

I breastfed for 7 months while taking humira. The baby did not need any special monitoring. The pediatrician was made aware, but there were never any issues. Baby was sick LESS than what I would say is typical (she's #3 and #1 was in public school so we had the occasional runny noses etc.) If you're concerned, you can consult with the pediatrician that you are going to use. You can show them Dr. Hale's research as well.

Based on the type of drug that Humira and Cimzia are they most likely have the same effect on breast milk - no effect. It's because the molecular structure is too big so negligible amounts, if any, transfer through to the milk.

I would say that the gas and slowness are due to the pregnancy. Those are both typical pregnancy-gut issues.

Hi Isergodur,

Have no suggestions about the breastfeeding as I knew Stef17 would be a great person to advise you.  But just wanted to wish you the biggest congrats on your twins.  How exciting for you!  Do you know the sexes yet?

Keeping you in my prayers that all goes well.  By the way I was horribly constipated with each of my pregnancies.  I had to eat salads every day to avoid getting too backed up.  But I was in remission at the time and hadn't had any surgeries yet, so could still eat salads in those days.  Could you ask the doc if stool softners are allowed?  Those help me immensley now with my c.  Or maybe he would let you use Miralax or Senekot.  While pregnant I used Ducolax suppositories and they helped some too.  Hugs!

Twins! How exciting! I have nothing to add to Stef17's great post, but wanted to also wish you many congrats and best wishes for an easy and healthy pregnancy.
