 I'm very new to this site so I might ask questions that have already been asked but I would really appreciate any help that you can give.

I have had Crohn's since 1977 and have had many bad time with this darn disease to the point i got Colon Cancer in 2003 because of the fistulas I always had. They have removed all of my colon and a lot of my small intestines, now the disease seems to effect my throat to the point things seem to get stuck plus i always have this mucus in the back of my throat that never wants to come up or go down.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to Healing Well Time out! During this last flare up, Crohn's did seem to attack my throat. I kept getting odd "deep" sore throats. I kept thinking I had strep, but turned out it was inflammation from Crohn's. Went on Prednisone and it all cleared right up.

Are you on any treatment for your Crohn's? I'd for sure bring up your problems with your doctor. No fun not being able to swallow!

Welcome to healingwell. Do you suffer from any stomach problems? Right now, I'm having the same symptoms but I refer it back to my GERD. I agree with Jen that you should consult your doc. Maybe is just a stomach problem and not Crohn's. Stomach problems are treated easily at the beginning.

We have a longtime member, RandyNoGuts that has had most of his small and large intestines removed. He is our resident expert on issues involving things related to having extremely shortened intestinal tracts. Hopefully he will come along soon. With the holidays, it may take a while for responses.

When I first experianced this flare one of my first symptoms was the Crohn's in the throat. I had a lot of blood and drainage. I thought at first it was strep then it spread all in my mouth. I don't have much advice other than all natural honey cough drops relieve the pain for a few minutes. The other cough drops seem to be too rough & sting. My Crohn's mainly affects my Cecum, Sigmoid, rectum, and everywhere from mouth to stomach.

  Try the cugh drop thing though! Of course, spicy foods, chips and stuff like that are bad nono

 Thank you all so much for welcoming me into the chat room. Hopefully i can answer all your questions :-)   First off I keep in close contact with my doctor about all my medical problems,he lets me e-mail him so i don't have to drive 2 1/2 hours to see him every time something goes wrong with me. I've been such a bad case since 1977. I used to have terrible pains in my stomach at the beginning from the Crohn's then the pain came from horrible blockages and then of course i developed three holes in my intestines from the Prednisone (taken to many years) But after they took most of my intestines away I haven't had any pain for about a year an a half I have how ever been struggling a lot with canker sores in my mouth and the mucus in the back of my throat which makes me cough a lot especially when i lay down to go to sleep, to the point i almost throw up??? I'm on Cimzia shots and 5mg of Prednisone, Cimzia every two weeks. The two together seemed to be working but this time around its like nothing has been given to me! My mouth is covered in canker sores,running temp and I'm always so tired. 

There is more to my story but I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to write in one sitting plus I don't want to bore you with me going on an on...

Dear RandyNoGuts,

I'm very sorry to hear of what you have been through...I do not have much intestines left either, they took most of my colon in 2003  because i got Cancer from Crohn's and then took the rest shortly after because of three holes that develop in the rest  because of Prednisone. Now they are working away at my small...Very scared to what happens if they have to take the rest. I have been on tube feeding a few times but I do not want to live that way for the rest of my life! mad

Hi and welcome to HW.

For the oral crohn's, you might want to try rinsing with oil of oregano & salt water. I do this when I get mouth ulcers and find it helpful. I suggest you spit out the solution, rather than swallow it, especially because of the short bowel.

hey time out , I have cd in esph. and throat, cankers. the only thing is food gets stuck in those oncillias rings in throat, I've been battling this since i had heat stroke in Aug. 2009, since then it's been down hill, now on ssdi, I've had 4 surgeries as well, short bowel syndrome. pred and pain med's are the only drugs that work, I've had terrible side effects from every drug out there, rem almost killed me, imuran I'm down to 1/2 of 50mg tab, and I still cough and spit up awful flem. fortunatly I only take 10mg's of pred and that helps my throat. gut is in remission, but the esph and throat are rough

Oh my god.... I got Cancer after taking Remacade (spelling)Now I'm on Cimzia and 5mg of Prednisone,sometimes it works other times not so much!

When my disease was very active, I had inflammation from my mouth through my stomach..I had a hard time swallowing, and I took an ulcer medication that I had to take thirty minutes before I ate anything along with antispasmotics and antiacids in pill form..I could not handle anything with any kind of spice at that time even salt and pepper could be irritating..Liquid carafate w/ donnatol I found helpful at my worst..I still go through periods of severe sensitivity and sores in my mouth..

Sorry, I didn't see your post again. I started with 1 drop. I think you can go up to about three. But you should not swallow if you're on any blood thinners. Not recommended at all if you're on blood thinners.

idea Welcome. You have no idea how long we Crohnies have been wishing for a Time out !! eyes yeah smilewinkgrin
There have been threads here in the past on the subject of mouth sores and apthous ulcers, you may want to search for any of those as they might be pertinent to you if you have sores.
I know there were particular preparations like bonjela that seemed to work on the ulcers, but the main thing I remember was that dissolving a zinc gluconate tablet in the mouth seemed to work for some folk. (I think the idea was that malnutrition meant that the immune system was really short on zinc, that particular form was easily absorbed and helped fight off bacterial/fungal overgrowth.)
In my case, mouth ulcers are a sure sign that I have too much sugar in my diet which is about to trigger a flare, I cut back and things improve. But my situation is far removed from yours, you may not find this. nono

Thanks for having me !! I recently have been suffering from cobblestoning on back of tounge and down throat and been having a lot of canker sores under tounge and swelling of lips !! Was severely worried it was cancer however some of the sores have healed over and was recently at the dentist for an inspection and she didn't mention any signs of oral cancer and my blood tests only showed low red blood cell count so lack of iron r!! I'm wondering if it might not be oral chrons !! I have suspected I have had intestinal chrons for 8 years now but never officially diagnosed only told it was probably ibd going to oral surgeon tomorrow to get biopsy fingers crossed it's not the worse of the 2 !! Any advice on what works well for oral sores and cobblestoning of throat ??

wow. never saw this 5 years ago.... diesel, ask the oral dr about some lidocaine gargle. I used to have to use it to even swallow spit. let alone food. thankfully it has not been a problem in maybe 20 years..
