Fever

I got sick (the coughing, aching, fever kind of sick) on 4th of July weekend. My roommate had to drag me out of bed so we could light off the $100+ worth of fireworks we'd purchased together. A week later, I was feeling much better, but the fever wouldn't budge. After a few more weeks, I called the GI's office and had more tests than I would have thought humanly possible, but to no avail. They can't find a cause.

It's been 3 1/2 months. I've been on three different antibiotics and had a month of prednisone with no results. I've been seeing an infectious disease specialist, and he's stumped. Every blood test is coming back normal. The temperature does bop back and forth a bit, sometimes dropping back down to normal 98 degrees for all of a few hours or days, only to shoot back up to 103.7. On any given day, it's usually in the 100.7-101.1 range. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist, but it's not until the end of November.

I get headaches whenever it rises. I've had some issues with my speech (MRI was normal) when my temperature has been high, and there have been quite a few instances of twitching hands and numbness. Other than that, there are no other consistent symptoms.

Any thoughts? Is it normal to have a fever for this long with Crohn's?

I get fevers when my Crohn's is flaring. So I have been going through a similar experience for the past 4 months. However my fevers aren't as bad (usually around 101.5 or so) and my GI has confirmed by colonoscopy that my Crohn's is active and he says this is likely the cause of my fevers. He claims that when the medication tames my Crohn's, the fevers will likely go away. I hope you find the solution soon. A fever that high is not fun to live with, especially when no one seems to have an answer.

Well, it's going on 6 months now. Fevers are still reoccurring, and:
1. I've managed to fully stump the infectious disease specialist
2. The rheumatologist has decided that it is Crohn's-related and that I need to increase my Remicade schedule from every 8 weeks to every 6 weeks
3. But my GI disagrees with the rheumatologist and refuses to budge on the schedule because he doesn't have any "proof" that it's Crohn's-related. He also refuses to do any testing.

Sigh. I'm going to take my feverish butt to my fantastic internist, and while I'm there, get a referral for another GI.

I had a fever when I was on remicade and it turned out I had an abscess. I'm sure if you had an abscess it would have been noted by now. Just a thought.
