I'm a newbie and trying SCD. This is hard. I've been gluten free for 2 years already and I can't do dairy so I was half way there. But I'm really craving the starches. I miss rice. I am REALLY struggeling with the SCD but trying really hard to stay on it so I can get off the meds . I am currently taking 2400mg of Asacol-I think that's a high dosage what do you think? Please HELP I'm getting discouraged. I'm on week 5 of SDC. HELP ME PLEASE
Have you noticed any improvement since cutting out rice? If not, you could probably safely add rice back into your diet... Pretty sure it says in the book that if you don't notice improvement within the first 30 days, the diet is not going to work for you.
RE: DFDave... the theory behind the diet states that it's to starve out bad bacterial, but all the diet really is is an anti-candida, elimination diet. Elaine even stated that the whole "fanatical adherence" crap was thrown in there because she knew it would be difficult to get back on track if one were to cheat. I'm sorry but any sugar is going to feed bacteria - whether it comes from bread/rice or bananas and grape juice. You could theoretically be on the diet forever and never really starve out the "bad bacteria" if you chose to eat only the high-sugar foods that are allowed - assuming you even had yeast issues to begin with.
