I just thought I would fill everyone in and hopefully help someone out there with the same problem as me... It has been a year since I found out I had what looks like Crohn's but the doctor doesn't want to treat me for Crohn's because I am not that bad yet. My main problem was horrible diarrhea 24/7 whether I ate food or not and it was consuming my life. The doctor put me on Cholestyramine powder (Questrian, a cholesterol lowering med) and it saved my life! As long as I take my meds I NEVER have diarrhea! So if anyone else is suffering with diarrhea, ask your doctor about it! LIFE IS GOOD! smilewinkgrin

LUv2 Run, thank you for sharing this piece of information. When I have non-stop D, I take either Lomotil or Imodium. I used to be like you but my doc decided that having this persistent D makes me loose a lot of electrolytes and was prone to become dehydrated, so he used to send to me to ERs to take fluids. Also, I can't get it when your doc said "I am not that bad yet". What does he mean by that? Is he going to leave you untreated? Out of reading a lot of posts at this forum, one discovered that if Crohn's is left untreated, more damage occurs. You can't just live with an anti-diarrheal and take no meds. As I told you, I had the same problem and I was put on pred which relieved D and then I was switched to methotrexate weekly injection and Entocort and D became better (keep your fingers crossed).
I think you should discuss the option of having a medication again with your doc and you have o find another doc and take a second opinion.

Yes, I agree I need to go back to the doctor to discuss further treatment. I talked to my family care doctor Monday of this week about going back to have another scope done and talk about other treatment options. I often think about what long term effect will come from not treating the problem and just stopping the symptoms. I don't know what he meant when he said I wasn't that bad, I was just so happy I would be able to keep working and for once go out to eat at a restaurant instead of just ordering take out! I will be making an appointment for July to be checked out again. So did you have any other problems then just diarrhea? I thought I just had IBS and when they treated me for that no meds worked. I'm just wondering what other symptoms people with "worse Crohn's then me" have.

I heard Calcium supplements also help. Anyone tried it?

Hi,

I had about 36" of gut removed in 1973, this included small and large intestine including the ileocecal valve. This left me with chronic D. Questran was my best friend for over 30 years before switching to Welchol tablets. These are fairly large pills but they beat a gritty powder in ease of use and the way they work. I take 7 a day with meals, if I eat a spicy or fatty meal that is when I take 3 tablets.

Ask your doctor if this would work for you, it is a major improvement in my life.
