Emergency surgery yesterday after ileostomy surgery last saturday

Wow....I was getting worried when we didn't hear from you that something was wrong! I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. I don't understand what "multiple abcesses in your abdomen" means. Is that from the Crohn's, or what? I hate it that you are suffering so much, and I can't wait for the day when you say everything is stabilized and you are ok. In the meantime, I will be hoping and praying for you. I wish I could do more. Take care, and thanks for updating all of us who care deeply about you!

I had a large abccessess behind my uterus, on top of my bladder amd two running halfway up my lungs. Today ive felt the most comfortable ive been since october of last year. The worst part of today was getting theNG tube pulled out. It felt like a number 2 pencil coming through my throat and nose. Ughhh. Im dreading tomorrow when they make me get out of bed for the first time since the 2nd surgery. I'll be going home on IV antibiotics, tpn until im eating enough, a wound vaccuum, home care nurses for all them and the ostomy. I also get physical therapy.

They let me have a light diet already today and milkshakes are glorious! Im still working on it an hour later bc i get so full so quick. I will drink one everyday! Goodbye 92lbs hello 93! Hahaha

Thank you guys for all your support! Im hoping this is finally the beginning of the upswing on all of this. I am worried about going home even with the help. Ive never had surgery like this and going home on all of this even though i know what it is amd what its for its terrifying.

You SOUND so much better in this last post, Andi. That is a relief to read. Hopefully, recovery is going to be "fast and furious" and you'll be dancing in the halls very soon. *wicked grin* (((hugs))).

Yes, I want to know if the abscesses were there before your surgery too.

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain! Maybe you need to talk with the nursing supervisor on your floor. Having to wait too long for the pain meds is absolutely miserable. If you are too sick to be assertive( that's how I get) then have your mom or husband speak up for you! Take good care.

I got switched back! I feel better taken care of already. They will be hearing about all that crap.

I might be going home wednesday and im scared out of my mind but i hope i do well. I gotta get a new picc line tmrw bc im going home on iv antibiotics and tpn. I also will have a wpund vac. Scarrrrry.. That dressing got changed for the first time today and holy moley that hurt.

I think im having awful gas from starting to eat again ugh. Makes for stupid stitches in my side. Getting up i hope will help.

Andi,  Hope all goes well and you have a speedy recovery.  I went through just about the same experience as you.  I did not have access to a wound care nurse so getting used to the ostomy was very difficult.  The ostomy forum here at Healing Well is excellent.    You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Tsitodawg- thank you you made me cry reading your post. I dont feel like ive done anything great, brave, or anything like that. Its amazing to me that its touched other people, i feel like i was just complaining/venting. I hope i help a lot of people by just letting them read this! It sucks and im incredibly lucky to have the support i do, i'd be lying if i said i wasn't. Its been the only thing keeping me going some of these days.

I have an amazing support in an ostomy nurse here. She brought me a stuffed doll that has an ostomy and its own poopbag as i call it. Its a real pouch that is used for neonates. She had my husband cut out the back and put it on the doll. Haha he thought it was cool too :p shes made me milkshakes and kicked my hubby out to get something to eat while i was knocked out snd he wouldnt leave because i would be alone and she was on her break! Im incredibly lucky to have her seeing me. Im planning on asking her when i graduate as nurse if theres a position i could work with or under her and help others like she does.

Thank you all for the well wishes! My journey isnt over yet.. They found clots in my one arm from the picc line i had that was clogged (by an incompetent nurse i had is what we think, she kept pushing meds thru it without checking compatability and it was a 3 day old central line!!) but thats besides the point now. Im hopefully going to a rehab hospital in a few days. I'll get the physical therapy i desparately need after losing 40lbs off a 130lb 5'2 frame and have the continued medical care i still need. It will take the stress off my husband and family for coordinating care and being home alone and possibly needing help and not being able to help myself.

Ive decided that a few scars wont kill me. Pain kills you. Having no life kills you. Being able to eat a mcdonalds happy meal will make me happy. Being able to enjoy time with family and friends again will be amazing. This has changed how i think and i hope it stays that way and i can help people with situations like everyone here. I used to worry i was "fat" and i realized how selfish i was and the time i wasted on stupid things like that is sad to me. Def taking this as a new lease on life, i might need therapy to help anxiety i have now. I still get depressed but talking to anyone helps and dont be afraid to is what ive learned. You go crazy by yourself. My dad has cancer, wont talk about it, most of our family doesnt even know and it has to be awful but thats his choice. I hope he changes for his own sake, but dont be afraid to talk about your problems, fears, etc anyone who reads this. It helps!
