Hi! I'm not a newbie to this site, but I mostly hang out in the Ostomy forum, which is probably why you've never seen me around. However I do have Crohn's disease and I'm in my teenage years.

Before I was diagnosed last March my periods disappeared. I think June 2010 was the last time I got them. After my bowel resection in September, this is the first time I've gotten my period. But I've had it for almost 2 weeks now :| Is that normal, because I haven't had it in so long? Or should I tell my mom and go see the doctor?

It could be that the lining of your womb has built up over the months you've gone without menstruating, which is resulting in a heavy period now. I doubt it's something to be too worried about, but if you feel it would reassure you to see the doctor then I would still advocate it. It might also be worth getting your iron levels checked if you've usually low or borderline, as this prolonged period might affect them slightly.

You should call your OB/Gyn. It's probably just spotting after your first menstrual cycle in a while, like Sera said, but it's worth a phone call. Your DR is going to want to know what you mean by bleeding - how many pads or tampons are you going through in a day or an hour, etc.

I have had friends who will have monster periods for weeks on end, and they are completely healthy. Hormones can do weird things to the menstrual cycle! I would definitely let your doctor know about it, though. If nothing else, it is good for them to have that kind of information. It will alos ease your mind about it :) Feel better!
