Anyone else with CD in your stomach and also have GERD?  My reflux has been running rampant the past few days even with my meds and adding OTC ones at night.  Last night was the pits, I even ended up sleeping sitting up in my bed and spent the rest of the night propped on pillows. (not good for arthritic back). 

So, what OTC meds do you take if you also have GERD?  I'm afraid if I call the GI he's going to make me come in AND insist on an endoscopy.

I just can't seem to figure out what is causing this is it the CD or just GERD?  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Same issue here. Last week was really bad - the pit of my stomach was on fire 24/7.

At my last follow-up appt. my GI recommended activated charcoal for a completely separate issue, so I ordered some online and have started taking them (2 capsules 2x per day). This week I feel fantastic as far as the GERD is concerned. Not sure if it's coincidence or if the charcoal is actually helping.

I use Prilosec and have taken it on doctor's orders continuously for many years. Eating smaller meals is helpful and quitting eating MANY hours before you go to bed at night may help. Some foods are triggers too.

I don't think I had CD in my stomach but perhaps I did at some point since I have no other reason to have gerd. I always thought the old CD drugs damaged my esophagus but who knows.......not me

Every scope I've had shows gastritis and the only time I've ever had to have my GI do a procedure on me (other than scopes) was a balloon dilation of my esophagus due to, I guess, esophagitis that led to a stricture. As a kid, many many years before my Crohn's diagnosis, I had terrible upper GI pain. So, yeah.

After my dilation I took nexium for a long time. It stopped working, and I got frustrated and stopped taking it. Then my 10 year old daughter started having terrible upper GI pain and we went through three different PPIs before getting her on Dexilant, which worked really well for her. After I'd bought Prevacid for her and had her reject it as useless, I tried it and was really shocked at how effective it was for me. The moral of the story is that many people who use PPIs find they have to switch brands periodically to get relief. All of these drugs are slightly different and perhaps this advice will give you adequate relief.

Since my experiment with Prevacid was so successful, I have achieved remission (fingers crossed) of my Crohn's in general, and my upper GI situation is hunky dory. I have no upper GI pain. I have no reflux. I barely have any problems with lactose. So I think getting your Crohn's under better control in general will give you relief, so see if you can work on that goal as well.

Thanks folks. This is just so nuts. My diet hasn't changed, no other meds have changed and yet I'm getting this awful reflux. I don't eat for at least 3 hours prior to bed as a rule. I used to take Prilosec prior to Nexium but it stopped working. Maybe I'll try adding some Prevacid and see how that works. I just want to get some sleep tonight and not have to do it sitting up......

And I know there isn't much chance of changing up my CD meds because the only active disease that shows up right now is in the last 30 cm of my colon.

Pink flip flops, let me know if the charcoal continues to help -- I might have to try it.

I have had GERD and gastritis 9 years before I was diagnosed with Crohn 's. I tried all possible GERD meds but kept vomiting. These days I'm suffering too from my stomach but I can accuse the trio of pred, methotrexate and pentasa to be the culprit. What meds are you on? I was taken off both pred and MTX but have to take the minimal dose of pentasa. My GERD used to be NERD (non-erosive) for 13 years but now it turned out to be erosive as the last endoscopy showed. I take nexium 80 and rabimpide. Other times, I combine nexuim with Zantac or Sucralfate. If you are eating any citrus fruits, tomato sauces or mint, try to avoid them. I have always been a tea addict but the recent flare up forced me to cut it down.

I am only having gluten free products, for more than two months now. My Gerd stopped when I stopped eating bread containing flour with the protein gluten. (Also my diarrhea stopped, my leg and foot cramps, my fatique, my bloating and gas). //Bee

Just to add to the confusion, I had been gluten free for a few months before my GI took me off Pentasa. Within a day of switching from Pentasa to balsalazide, I had a couple of days of awful upper GI pain. I took Prevacid for a week and it went away, and has not returned. I drink tea without concern these days, although I ate a hot pepper a few months ago and almost screamed.
