Well, I've just had the results from my last set of scopes. Have been waiting for two years for a proper diagnosis now. It looks like I definately have Crohn's disease but the great thing is that it's only mild. Feeling mixed emotions. On one hand I'm a little sad that it's Crohn's very graeful that it's mild. Fingers crossed it stays that way :)

Yes, I guess you must feel relieved that they have finally given you a diagnosis.
I'm sorry it turned out to be CD.
What treatment options have they given you?

At the moment the GI said he is happy to not treat it as my symptoms are only mild. I was on 6MP for a while about
a year and a half a go and if it starts to get any worse, he said he would start me on a small dose of that again to see if I tolerate it. Had really bad nausea, headaches and dizziness and my hair was falling out the last time I had it but he said it's the lesser of the evils lol.
I have to be careful what I eat, though if I'm having a bad day it doesn't matter what I eat lol.
It's a bit scary I guess, not knowing what the future holds. I'd like to think that it will just stay mild but don't know what the chances are of that.

dear wren12, im happy that you finally got a diagnosis, maybee not the one you want but certainly now you get face it and do what it takes to control it. There is one thing that i don't understand though, you said you were suffering since a child, what took the doctors so long to diagnose this? My daughter was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago and has been sick since december so lets say 3 months tops, now her doctor did the upper and lower G.I. and bloodwork and CT scans and they told us she has crohn's, never ever before was she sick with stomache issues, she had a viruis in november a cough actually then came down with stomache pains and pain in her chest and diareha, found out there are ulcers in the esauphagus and inflamation in the stomache and some minor irritation in the colon area, im just so confused how some people can be diagnosed real soon thern some take years like your case, i'm just so confused it makes me wonder how many put there are misdiagnosed, maybee even my daughter??? anyway i hope your feeling better but please share your thought on this too. thanks

Hi laudy,
I think I was about
9 or 10 when I first started having symptoms but it was always mildish. I would wake up with pain in the night, the doctors just tols us tht it was growing pains and to eat yoghurt lol. Then in my early twenties, I had terrible pain in my upper stomach. Felt like I couldn't eat. The doctor put me on antacid and some kind of reflux medication and said that if it didn't ease, there may be an ulcer and to see him again. Being young though, i didn't bother. The medication eased it a little so i just ignored the rest. Around 2006 I noticed that things weren't normal when I went to the loo but there was no pain or anything else nasty, so again i tried to ignore it. While I was pregnant with my first baby things seemed to go back to normal so I figured whatever it was had fixed itself. 2 months after the birth however and I started having bouts of pain and diarhea. They only lasted a few hours and then I would seem to be ok. Again i ignored it. By the end of 2009 it was quite bad though. Constant pain and running to the toilet so I had my first set of scopes. The GI said that it looked like Crohn's (erosionsin the duodenum and terminal illeum) however the biopsies came back inconclusive. He ordered a cal - protectin test which came back showing a postive result for Corhn's. At this point I was put on 6MP. (I had been on prednisone for a few weeks). about
6 months later the GI left and the new one decided that I didn't have Crohn's, just IBS and anxiety so I stopped the 6MP. I seemed to be ok though still had pain and diarhea everyday but not horrendous. When I fell pregnant again, I was sent back but yet again another new GI. He has been great though. Same as last time with pregnancy, it seemed alot better but then got worse after. This last set of scopes showed that the duodenum is looking better but still illietis. So the GI decided that it is Crohn's but mild. Sorry to be so long winded. I'm so sorry that your daughter has been given this diagnosis. Is it possible to ask for the cal protectin test? I'm not sure what is measured but my GI at the time said that it was the ony test result that came back showing a result that would indicate Crohn's. I hope you get the answers you all need.
