Coughing up blood while taking Humira

I'm getting almost all of the things that the Humira box says to tell your doctor about if they occur & this morning I woke up with a sore throat(I ignored it because I figured it was another sinus infection)& got in the shower. In the shower I all of a sudden felt nauseated when I bent down to wash my legs and then I got sharp pains in my stomach & throat and I couldn't stop choking then I started coughing up and gagging on blood and bloody snot. I felt dizzy after that so I got out & sat on the toilet for a few minutes just in case I had 'd' to follow & to rest.

  Well, I've had bloody throat ulcers before but usually not this bloody and deffinately not with this much pain. I don't know if it's that, just part of an infection or something Humira related. The box said to "call your doctor if you have blood in your phlegm while taking Humira".  Honestly, I don't feel like it. He doesn't care that I'm getting rashes, itching like crazy, bad headaches, constant infections etc. so I doubt he'll care about this. I just think he has in his mind that he doesn't want me to fail this med like everything else because of allergies. I don't blame him either.

 I got my 7th Humira shot yesterday(1st time giving it to myself!) so I'm wondering if it's Humira related. Anybody experiancing this/have experianced this?

It only happened this morning & as soon as I got done posting this I started choking and a lot of blood came up again... My luck I guess. I guess it's time to talk to the doctor! I just hope he lets me stay on it..

If you get bleeding ulcers in your throat, Humira or any other biologic may be a problem for you. You definately need to contact your Dr. asap!

This product is similar to Remicade, is it not?

The company that developed and makes Remicade started a clinical trial of Remicade to treat COPD - and they had to end the clinical trial early due to adverse results. Remicade is now listed as contraindicated for COPD.

Another warning w/all the biologicals I believe is not to start it if you have an infection, ANY type of infection. I would think that would hold true w/discontinuing its use when having an infection.

If it were me experiencing this I would not even take the time to call my doctor, much less post this, I'd be out the door and on my way to ER.

So sorry to hear you are soo sick! I hope your doc helps you to get better soon! I've had the throat ulcers and they are awful!

I am so sorry you are feeling bad! I am glad that you went to the ER. I am surprised they did not admit you for IV antibiotics...

If you cant get this flare under control, you may suggest IV steroids( for your Crohn's) and IV antibiotics for your throat!

When I start to flare, I go on clear liquids for a day or so then I transition to SCD or a modified version, no breads, sugars or dairy and all organic meats. I get plenty of rest. I drink filtered water, no caffeine or carbonated anything. I double up on my probiotic ( ultimate critical care flora from Whole Foods). I increase my D3 to up to 5-6 K IU per day. I take 2 Slippery Elm at night, I take extra fish oil and Bee Propolis as needed along with my Rowasa and Lialda. This pulled me out of a flare a few weeks ago. I had to try an alternative to Prednisone because I have nearly exhausted all medication options and cant have Prednisone due to AVN .

Supplements have been a big help to me!They dont help everyone but it may be worth trying if you are not having much success with pharmaceuticals.

Please let us know how you are doing! Also, if you are not feeling better soon, complain loudly to your Dr.'s so they listen to you! You are your best advocate!
