Hi Angie,
Unfortunately, I'm all to familiar with cdiff and IBD. My son has UC and is treated with Remicade. His infusions work for the IBD, but would not during the cdiff infection. He struggled with cdiff for over a year. He relapsed over 8 times on various abx (flagyl, vanco, rifaxamin) and probiotics (culturelle, florajen, s.boulardii, etc.). After the 8th relapse he was admitted with severe pseudomembraneous colitis. The docs suggested colectomy, but we decided it was time to do a fecal transplant...which we researched extensively. For the first time in a year, within 24 hours of doing the FT, my young son told us he felt like he had a new tummy. That was 5 months ago....and he has been in remission ever since.
As for Dr. Brandt.....he is a rock star. He just published the latest large trial FT results for relapsing cdiff. I don't remember, but I think there were almost 100 people in the trial and 98% of them were cured of cdiff. Over 90% were cured after the first FT....and the other 8% needed a second FT. The 2% that didn't respond had misc circumstances that actually exempted them from the trial.... Dr. Brandt was NOT the GI that did my son's FT, but he is the one that I have been in contact with for the months since. He is compassionate and a pioneer for FT in the US. We continue to do a home FT protocol in hopes it will also alleviate his UC. For now, we are so grateful for FT, the GI that did the FT (via colonoscopy)...and of course, Dr. Brandt, who has always been there for us.
Sooooo, don't wait any longer with your cdiff infection. It becomes resistent to vanco, flagyl, etc...., it will take over your colon and wipe you out eventually. FT is almost 100% against Cdiff and will leave you with a healthy colon again.
