Pain above right hip bone

All morning I've been getting pretty strong twinges/pangs directly above my right hip bone. If you follow the side seam of jeans, it's right above that. I know flank pain further back might be kidneys. My pain is usually more in front and to the side of my navel. Any idea what this pain might be? I'm in a mini-flare and don't like any new symptoms.

I get pain in that area alot. Mine I believe is related to adhesions. When the guts don't feel so good, it will really hurt bad. The only thing that helps at times are my pain meds and heating pad. Hope its nothing serious and you get feeling better soon.

Thanks Nanners. I keep hoping this won't turn into a full flare. I've been in remission for so long I'd forgotten what it was like. I see the GI on the 15th, so we'll see. I was recently on antibiotics, the preg hormones just dropped, and I ate junk over the holidays, so there are a lot of reasons to be feeling a bit off right now.

Hip pain is often associated with inflammation/infection around the TI. Here's a test. Lie on your back. Bring your right leg in towards your belly with your knee bent. Cradle your knee in your right hand and gently rotate the leg in the hip socket.

If you feel an increase in pain at any point in the rotation, especially if it is a deep, stabbing pain, or if you notice that your hip is aching when you bear weight, it might be a good idea to have bloodwork done to rule out an infection, especially if you are in a flare.

Bellenstein-- thanks for the information. I had no idea that could be the TI or about that test. I have a major stricture in the TI so I'm afraid it makes sense.

Hi,

I know this thread is from several years ago, but did you ever figure out what that pain above your hip was caused by?

I have crohns and have had a dull achey pain above my hip, from my navel to my back for a week now.

Just wondering if you ever figured yours out.

Any help would be appreciated.

JJok, as mentioned in the posts above I too have always had this pain when my intestines were flaring. I could tell and tell my GI. Actually, it has been my main pain for 5 years now. What meds are you on? Entocort relieved this pain but I have to be taken off it as I have been on it for 4 months now.
I think you should see your doc or call him. As long as you cannot deal with your pain, you should get medical assistance asap.

Hello everybody. I had right hip pain about 4 weeks ago. I went and saw two doctors, they told me it was inflammation from my Crohn's or a muscle sprain and gave me muscle relaxers. A couple days later, on Saturday morning, walked into kitchen to get me a cup a tea, turned to walk to the microwave and pop/ crack went my hip. It was a Saturday, could not find a doctor to save my life. It was President weekend and could not find any of my doctors. So I waited until Monday and went to ER where I could find a good doctor that did not work on the weekend. I broke my hip in half. I had to have full replacement surgery but the kicker I had to wait until Wednesday night. They had to get my blood levels under control because I had blood clots in the same leg in November. I can't tell you how much pain I was in for those three days. They gave me morphine shots every two hours and percocet every four hours. They had to switch me to oxycontin because the pain was so bad. I was in the hospital one week and I am now going thru physical therapy. They told me it will be at least three to six months for me to heal up.
I talked to several doctors and they all agreed it is from my disease and years of being on Prednisone. ( the great drug). They also worry that I will break something else because they did a bone density test and said my bones are like a 75 year old man.
So if i can give you a word of advice go get some Xrays and Ultrasound just to make sure what it maybe.

Wow, I haven't posted here in like 2 years!

When I had that pain, I had a solid mass that I could feel if I pressed down on that area. If you have the same, mine was caused by an abscess near my TI. I ended up needing surgery for it. Was diagnosed by CT enterography, so if you ever feel a mass like that, I highly recommend that test (or an MRI if you're worried about radiation.. I have those now due to all of the CTs that I have had).
