A stricture is a narrowing somewhere in your intestines. It can either be from scar tissue or inflammation. If you are cut open and have surgery, or if the stricture is in the colon and your doc can see it, then the doc can differentiate between the two. Otherwise, the doc can guess based on your tests results, symptoms and responses to medications. If your stricture is from scar tissue, then yes, you can be in remission and have a stricture. If you are currently having inflammation, then you are in a flare and not in remission. My understanding is that every time you get inflammed, and the inflammation resolves, it leaves behind some scar tissue. When the scar tissue is severe, you can end out with a partial or full bowel obstruction. In my case, I had a partial obstruction from a stricture due to inflammation in my ileum. After two months of Prednisone, the inflammation resolved, and I am now back on maintenance meds and in remission. If someone looked at my ileum today, they would probably see some scar tissue, but it is not bad enough to cause an obstruction. Your goal is to try to prevent the flares with medication, because the more times you cycle through inflammation episodes, the more scar tissue you build up. I hope this helps answer your question.
